Looney re-signs with Warriors for three years, $15M
Free agent forward/center Kevon Looney agreed to re-sign with the Golden State Warriors, landing a three-year, $15 million contract, multiple media outlets reported Monday.
Looney, 23, appeared in 80 regular-season games and made 24 starts for the Warriors last season, averaging 6.3 points and 5.2 rebounds.
In the postseason, Looney posted averages of 7.1 points and 4.5 rebounds, seeing more time when DeMarcus Cousins missed most of the first three rounds of the playoffs due to injuries.
Looney sustained a ribcage cartilage injury in Game 2 of the NBA Finals against the Raptors. He missed one game before returning to action and playing through the ailment the last three contests as the Warriors fell to Toronto in six games.
The San Jose (Calif.) Mercury News reported that Looney met with the Houston Rockets, Chicago Bulls and Dallas Mavericks after free agency began Sunday night before returning to Golden State, which selected him 30th overall in the first round of the 2015 draft.
In four seasons with the Warriors, Looney has averages of 4.5 points and 3.8 rebounds in 204 games (32 starts).
The Warriors were active at the start of free agency, agreeing to acquire guard D'Angelo Russell after losing forward Kevin Durant to the Brooklyn Nets. Golden State also dealt Andre Iguodala and a protected 2024 first-round draft pick to the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for a $17.2 million trade exception.
