Logansport-Harrison football game canceled; Logan volleyball team again on hold

Sep. 2—The Harrison at Logansport football game on Friday night has been canceled.

The contest was set to be the North Central Conference opener for both the Class 4A No. 13 Berries (2-0) and the Class 5A No. 12 Raiders (1-1).

Logansport athletic director Brian Strong said the Berries have too many players in quarantine to play Friday night. The JV game on Saturday with the Raiders has also been canceled due to the same reason.

Strong said it's too soon to say when the Berries will return. The return time varies depending on COVID testing and if symptoms arise.

Cancellations and postponements of high school games have been commonplace again this school year. Just last week the Berries had a game against Northwestern canceled. They picked up NorthWood and recorded an 18-15 win.

Logansport volleyball team again on hold

For the second time this season the Logansport volleyball team is dealing with COVID issues.

The Berries' match at Caston on Thursday was canceled/postponed, as was their matches next week with Harrison and Marion. They will also not take part in the JV invitational at Muncie Central this weekend.

The Logan volleyball team was also in quarantine the first weekend of the season, which caused the cancellation of the Cass County Tournament.

Warriors now No. 6 in Class A grid poll

Winamac's football team moved up four spots to No. 6 in Class A in this week's Associated Press state rankings.

The Warriors (2-0) travel to Manchester (1-0) for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff Friday night after the North White game was canceled. Manchester beat North Miami 42-6 in Week 1.

Pioneer (0-2, 0-1 HNAC) is getting some players back for Friday's 7:30 p.m. kickoff at Class 2A No. 15 LaVille (2-0, 1-0). The Panthers had seven starters out for last week's 38-6 loss at Winamac which snapped their 42-0 HNAC run. Coach Adam Berry said the Panthers are getting back starters Brock Robinson, Eli Miller and Caleb Sweet. Quarterback Cayden Hill is questionable with his rib injury. Both Pioneer and LaVille along with Winamac and North Judson entered the season as the favorites to win the conference.

Lewis Cass (1-0) hosts Benton Central (0-2) for a 7 p.m. kickoff Friday. The Kings are looking to build off their 20-7 win over North Miami last week. Benton Central played Delphi to within 12-2 in Week 1.

Caston (1-1, 0-1 HNAC) travels to Triton (1-1, 0-1) for a 1 p.m. kickoff on Saturday. The Comets are getting coach Will Porter back on the sidelines. Porter said three players remain out, including one that has played a lot of minutes. Triton is coming off a 7-0 loss to LaVille.

The game was moved to Saturday to allow the Triton football team to pay their last respects to teammate Cameron Fairchild, who tragically passed away last Saturday in a car crash.

It was the second death this school year of an area conference football player, as Western's Trevor Buckley died in a car crash the previous Saturday.
