YMCA Megs deliver strong showing

The Muskingum YMCA “Megs” swim team, a newly formed team Y team, competed against nine teams from the Columbus area and had an outstanding performance recently at the Liberty Powell Invitational.

Leila Hawk brought home four first-place finishes in the 100 fly, 100 back, 100 Breaststroke and 100 freestyle in the woman’s 14 and up age group to lead the Megs.

In the 8 and under age group, Henry Nicholson placed 2nd in the 25 yard fly, 3rd in 25 freestyle and 6th in the 25 yard backstroke; for the 9-12 boys age group, Bryan Jiang placed 1st in the 100 IM, 50 yard Breaststroke and 50 yard backstroke; Nora Dillehay placed 2nd in the 100 yard Breaststroke, 4th in the 200 Breaststroke and 5th in the 200 IM; and Danny Jiang placed 8th in the Men’s 13 and up 100 Breaststroke to go with three 10th place finishes in the 200 IM, 100 Backstroke, and 100 Freestyle.

McHugh hits ace at ZCC

Tim McHugh used a 4 hybrid to score a hole-in-one on the 162-yard 5th hole on Sunday, June 25 at Zanesville Country Club. He shot 37 for nine holes, and the shot was witnessed by Matt Weir and Luke Hill.

Junior Bishops Soccer Camp to be in July

The Jr. Bishops Soccer Camp will be July 24-26 and run from 5:30-7 p.m. each day at the fields behind Rosecrans High School. Camp is for players entering K thru 8th grade.

Cost is $40 per camper and a camp shirt is included. Current coaches, players and alumni will conduct the camp.

Muskingum Fishing Club holding tournament

The Muskingum Fishing Club will hold another fundraiser bass tournament on July 9 at the Tappan Boat Ramp, 32489 US 250, Scio, OH 43988.

Registration is from 5 to 6 a.m. with the tournament going from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Entry fee is $90 with 75% payout to the top three placers. There will also be multiple raffles, and the limit is 5 bass over 12 inches with a 1 pound dead fish penalty.

The top placer wins a Googan squad spinning combo. For more information, contact Cody Lauffer at 740-459-8001.

Golf League Results

At Vista, Tom Denton and Rusty Carr carded 35s for low gross in the Palmer Division of the Senior League on June 22. Greg Meadows and Brent Bunting had 36s, while low net of 29 was posted by Denton and Frank Clifton and 30 by Meadows and Gary McGuire and 31 by Carr. Steve Clark and Mike Firman led the Nicklaus Division with low gross of 38 and Dave Phillips, Ed Middaugh and Larry Kimble shot 39. Clark, Firman and Tim Younkins had low net of 29 and Phillips 30.

For June 29, Brent Bunting shot 34 for low gross in the Palmer Division followed by a 35 by Rusty Carr, 37 by Steve Johnson and 38s from Rob Thuma and Rocky King. Low net was 31 by Tony Beardmore, Frank Clifton and Steve Senter, 32 by Carr and 33 by Bunting and Thuma. Division leaders are Bunting & Dave Cox 26.5 points, Mike Matz & Carr 26, Rocky Brownfield & John Crown 21.

In the Nicklaus Division, Danny James carded 38 for low gross followed by Mike Firman with 39, Ron Shirer with 40 and Russ Friebe and Danny Fulks with 41. Low net was 28 by Shirer, 31 by Firman and Friebe and 32 by James and Bob Reed. Division leaders are Shirer & Steve Clark 23.5, Alan Brookover & Carl Vensil 22.5, Bob Reed & John Kay 21 and Ed Middaugh & Rollie Kanavel 20.

At Crystal Springs, the Monday League held a 2-Man Best Ball mid-year outing. In the A Division, Dan Stottsberry & Tom Downs placed first with Frank Sidwell & Rick Rokas in second and Steve Clark & Danny Frame in third. In the B Division, Randy Newell & Bill Davis were first, Jeff Emmons & Charlie Brenner second and Dave Devoll & Jack Kinder third.

In the Crystal Springs Golf Club Tuesday Evening Hittle League, Christian Hayden fired 32 for low gross and BJ Varner had low net of 29. The winning teams were 3-9-1-5-2-10.

At Green Valley, Joe Simmons, Dan Marks, Dennis Dunlap & Keith Mills won the Senior Scramble League with a 52 on Monday. Doug Smith, John Gibson, Mark Ferguson & Pat Norris were second with 54; Dave Camp, Doug Dovenbarger, Bud Lupher & Virgil Chute were third with 54 and Mike Hamilton, Dave Phillips & Dave McMillion were fourth with 56. Closest to the Pin winners, Dennis Dunlap (Nos. 6 and 11), Dave McMillion (15) and Mike Hamilton (16).

In the Trillium Vision Care League, Roger Moore and David Teas tied for low score on the front nine at 30 and Steve Haren carded 30 for low score on the back nine. Low net on the front was 25 by Wayne Mox, low net on the back was 26 by Mike Haren and low net team was Bogey's with 111.

In the MHPCC Ladies League, Kathi Galloway carded 35 for low gross and Roxie Lincicome posted low net of 22. Winning teams were 1, 2, 3, 8, and 10.

The Green Valley Parettes had Mary Burkhart with low gross of 38 and Juanita King, Mary Burkhart, and Roxy Smith with low net of 29. Winning teams were 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9 and 13.

Kathy Mathews carded 35 for low gross and Ruth Havens had low net of 19 in the Edward Jones/Scott Barr Ladies League. Mathews also made a birdie on No. 10 thanks to a chip-in, and Charlotte McGuire made a chip-in on 18. Deb Davis won the weekly game with Most 4's with 5, and winning teams were 3, 4, 6, 10, 11 and 12.

In a makeup for the Edward Jones League, Debbi Bollinger had low gross of 37 and Vissy Means posted low net of 22. Means also made a birdie on No. 12, and Kathy Mathews had 7 5's to win the weekly game. Winning teams were 1, 4, 6, 8, 9, and 12.

At Fuller's Fairways, Len Sedlak fired 33 for low gross while Terry Chambers & Doug Geyer had 29 for low net in the GEYER FAMILY INSURANCE WEDNESDAY LEAGUE. Team results: Geyer Family Insurance (3), Goss Supply (2); Farus Funeral Home (4), 3 Bald Guys & Bob (1); Fulmer Insurance (3), J & S Maintenance (2); CCU Mining (3.5), Jarretts (1.5); Mayhem (4), Flecto (1); Carlwick Stop & Shop (3), Big Johnsons (2).

Low gross was 31 by Jim & Lucy Cook and Bob & Lynn Werry, and low net was 27 by Jim & Lucy Cook in THE GREENS Couples Scramble League. The winning teams were Bob & Lynn Werry, Joel & Trista Harris, Harry & Linda Johnson, Matt & Misty Grimm, Jim & Lucy Cook, Greg & Robin Sites, Joe & Melanie Good, and Dave & Karen Lyons. Closest to the pin on hole #6 and hole #8 was Joel Harris.

At EagleSticks, Mike Walters fired 34 for low gross on the front nine and Jack Porter posted a 33 for low gross on the back in the Coconis Furniture Tuesday Night League. Low net on the front was 27 by Mike McClelland and low net on the back was 26 by Rob Gray.

At Zanesville Country Club, Derek Watiker was the Player of the Day and 9-Holers were led by Low Score: Cohen Todd & Theo Goodman and Low Putts: Oscar Goodman & Jacob Welch in Friday's Junior Golf.
