New Boston Huron's softball team poses with the trophy after clinching the Huron League championship Thursday with a 13-4 win over Flat Rock

FLAT ROCK – New Boston Huron’s softball team was not in a mood to share.

The Chiefs would have nothing to do with the Huron League championship trophy until after they clinched it outright with a 13-4 win over Flat Rock Thursday.

“Our AD (athletic director Jake Shulaw) brought over the trophy yesterday and they just stared at him,” Huron coach Tedi Belisle said. “There was zero response. He said, ‘Wow, that was not very climatic.’ I said, ‘They don’t want to share. We’ll wait for this until tomorrow.’”

Huron didn’t wait Thursday, scoring four runs in the opening inning and never looking back.

Jenna Kuzara, Erin Newman, Marissa Jackson, and Savannah Karver all collected three hits for the league champions. Kuzara blasted her seventh home run of the season.

Madison Myles added two hits. Rylie Greggo pitched well and made a great diving defensive play as Huron improved to 20-4 and finished the league season at 12-2.

Addy Roussey homered and Gabriella Martinez delivered a two-run single for Flat Rock.

And the opponent made it even more special.

The Dundee softball coach picked up wins No. 400 and 401 in his career during a 9-8, 15-12 sweep of Ida Thursday.

“It was nice to get them against Ida as this is a big rivalry for both schools. Good wins for us and a special day for me,” Moody said.

Neither victory came easily. The first one stretched to nine innings. The Vikings had to come back from a 6-0 deficit in Game 2.

“Lauren Doane was the key for us in Game 1,” Moody said. “She came on in relief in the sixth inning and got out of a bases-loaded jam to keep us in the game.”

Kennedy Irwin hit her first home run of the season and broke the school records in stolen bases (49) and runs (61).

Kaylee Imo smashed her first home run of the season and drove in six runs. Kiernan Brown collected three hits and three RBI for the Vikings, who improved to 22-10 overall and finished in second place in the Lenawee County Athletic Association at 10-4.

Ida was finishing a busy stretch of the season. The Blue Streaks have played 13 games in the past two weeks.

“Proud of how the girls came back from Tuesday's games and worked hard tonight,” Ida coach Chelsea Brancheau said.

Brancheau praised the grit of pitchers McKenna Tarry and Maddie McCain.

McCain went 7-for-11 in the doubleheader and scored five times. Jessica Schrader added five hits, Summer Smith was 3-for-4 with four runs and four RBI in the second game, and Reese Hennessey delivered a key bunt. Alexa Swiderski also played well.
