Local Sports: Dundee, Jefferson, Carlson impressive on the mats

HUDSON – Dundee wrestled its first dual meet of the season with a mixed lineup of 16 wrestlers.

“Overall, we competed well and got some good mat time,” said Dundee co-coach Garrett Stevens.

The Vikings beat Jackson Northwest 52-19 and Sand Creek 63-16.

Going 2-0 on the night were Ben Motylinski, Mason Katschor, Cam Chinavare, JC Amrhein, Avery Lane, Trey Parker, Owen Motylinski, Rocco Redmon, and Landon King.

Katschor beat two ranked opponents while bumping up a weight class to 113. Amrhein went up a class to 144 and beat the No. 2 ranked wrestler in Division 2 by a 6-2 decision.

PREP WRESTLING

No. 10 Bears win twice

RIVERVIEW – Jefferson, ranked No. 10 in Division 2, blanked Riverview 81-0 and dominated Grosse Ile 72-6 Wednesday.

Going 2-0 for the Bears was Jonah Busen, Daniel Allen, Tyler Vanderpool, Ty Rose, Issac Masserant, Gary Rice, Vladimir Uhlik, Carter Simota, Malachi Pribyl, Martre Pearson, Gabe Hall, and Anthony Cousino.

Carlson wins twice

WOODHAVEN – Gibraltar Calrson beat Lincoln Park 57-19 and Allen Park 37-33 Wednesday.

Winning twice for the Marauders was Josh Hales, Joshua Stith, Zachary Taylor, Gabrial Lyle, Michael Shaw and Mike Skowronski. Josh Newby had a 21 second pin while Shaw and Skowronski had two falls each.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Milan dips to 2-6

MILAN – The Grizzlies took it to the Big Reds, outscoring them in every quarter except the third in rolling to a 72-51 win Wednesday night.

Grant Segrist led Milan (2-6) with 13 points.

“We continue to struggle on defense,” Milan coach Bobby Green said. “We’re giving up far too many second chance points.”

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Summerfield falls again

PETERSBURG – Summerfield dropped its second game in two nights and is 2-2 heading into Christmas break after falling 46-24 to Clinton Wednesday night.

“We actually played good two and a half quarters on defense,” Summerfield coach Mickey Moody said. “Then we just got sloppy.”

Freshmen Bridgett Salenbien and Gabi Myshock were bright spots for the Bulldogs.

Summerfield’s junior varsity team is 4-0 after a victory Wednesday.

PREP SWIMMING

Erie-Ida drops meet

ERIE – Luke Small took first in diving, Bowie Jacobs first in the 100 backstroke and Grantham Nelson first in the 100 breastroke but the Erie-Ida team lost to Detroit Country Day 89-82 Tuesday.

It was the first home meet in over a year for Erie-Ida.
