ADRIAN – The 399th victory of Bill Ryan’s coaching career looked a lot like the first 398.

Bedford’s girls basketball team locked down on defense in routing Lenawee Christian 42-21 on Martin Luther King Day Monday.

The Mules did not allow a point in the first quarter, just 4 in the first half and 10 after three periods.

It was 14-0 after one quarter.

Payton Pudlowski led the 5-1 Mules with 17 points.

Ryan, who has 72 wins as Bedford’s boys coach and 327 with the girls coach, will go for No. 400 Friday when the Mules host Ypsilanti Lincoln Friday night.

Whitmer visits The Corral at noon Saturday.

NEW BOSTON – Chad Martin poured in a career-high 29 points as New Boston Huron topped Trenton 64-51 Monday.

“I couldn’t be more proud and happy for him,” Huron coach Ted Tackett said. “He has had a positive attitude and has been working hard all year.”

It was an important win for 6-4 Huron, which was coming off a 17-point loss to Flat Rock Friday.

“This was a nice bounce-back win for our club,” Tackett said.

Zennon Grant added 9 points, Kyle Kantola 8 and Nate Morse 7.

State Line struggles

LAKE ZURICH, Ill. – State Line Christian came back from a long trip to Illinois during the weekend with one win in three games.

The Patriots (4-9) started with a 62-48 loss to host Quentin Road Baptist, then fell 60-36 to Arthur Christian School before beating Lake County Christian 61-39.

Cooper Worley rang up a total of 42 points in the tournament, including 17 in the opener and 16 in the final contest.

Preston Roque had a pair of double-figure games, Jackson Baumker netted a career-best 16 against Lake County and Andrew Knapp was the top scorer against Arthur with 10.

Athletico wins opener

MONORE – Goals by Jaeden Vega, Stephanie Zecman, Steve Bucknor and Habeeb Bello all scored to lead Athletico to a 7-1 win over the Dundee Vikings on opening night of Winter Session 2 in the Monroe Adult Coed Indoor Soccer League Sunday night at LevelUp Training.

Walleye stay with Wings

TOLEDO – The Toledo Walleye announced Monday that they will are extending their affiliation with the Detroit Red Wings for three more years.

The 2024-25 season will be the 15th year of the partnership.

“We’re very pleased to continue our partnership between the Red Wings and the Walleye,” said Red Wings Executive Vice President and General Manager Steve Yzerman. “Toledo continues to be an outstanding organization both on and off the ice, and playing in front of a passionate fanbase and a commitment to a winning culture has been vital for the development of our young players. We’re looking forward to seeing the Walleye continue their pursuit of a Kelly Cup championship.”
