LOCAL ROUNDUP: OSF wrestlers take Regional crown

Feb. 6—ROBINSON — The Oakwood/Salt Fork wrestling team made Saturday's IHSA Class 1A regional at Robinson High School look fairly easy.

The Comets had 255.5 points to win the team title, beating second place Lawrenceville by close to 100 points.

Brayden Edwards (113 pounds), Grant Brewer (150), Bryson Capansky (157), Dalton Brown (175) and Jamison Chambliss (190) each took first place finishes for the Comets, while Steven Uden (106), Tyler Huchel (120), Pedro Rangel (132) and Jack Ajster (138) each took second and Thomas Wells (126), Carter Chambliss (144) and Kade Fleming (285) took third.

Westville/Georgetown-Ridge Farm took seventh as a team with Logan Mahaffey (157), Gabriel Kiddoo (165) and Ethan Miller (190) each taking second and Jesse Irelan (113) took third.

Every individual that advanced will go to Vandalia on Friday, while the Comets will be making their second straight trip to the dual team sectional later this month at Benton.

Danville fifth at Mattoon

MATTOON — The Vikings had five wrestlers advance and took fifth in an IHSA Class 2A regional on Saturday.

Ty Rangel (132) and Phillip Shaw IV (175) each won individual titles for Danville, while Gavin Rule (113), Tristan Poplous (157) and Phoenix Parker (190) each took fourth.

The Vikings will advance to Mahomet-Seymour for a sectional that will start on Friday.

Hoopeston Area fourth at Unity

TOLONO — The Cornjerkers advanced seven wrestlers as they took fourth as a team in an IHSA Class 1A regional at Tolono Unity High School.

Angel Zamora (175) had the lone individual title for Hoopeston Area, while Charlie Flores (106) and Ayden Larkin (157) each took second and Talan Nelson (126), Aiden Bell (132), David Bell (144), Ayden Larkin (157), Bryson Brewer (215) and Tucker Deck (285) each ended up fourth.

Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin had four wrestlers advance as Taylor Pattison (120), Christian Walton (190) and Landynn Balla (215) each took third and Ayden Golden (138) was fourth.

All wrestlers that advanced will go on to the Stanford Olympia sectional, which will start on Friday.

N. Vermillion eighth in regional

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — The Falcons had three wrestlers get past regional action at North Montgomery High School on Saturday.

Aiden Hinchee (215) was second for North Vermillion, while Aden Rangel was third at 126 and Wyatt Walters took fourth at 132.

The Falcons will next wrestle at the New Castle semi-state on Saturday.

Seeger ninth at Logansport

LOGANSPORT, Ind. — The Patriots were able to get two wrestlers through regional action at Logansport High School.

Kayden Stonebreaker was second at 120 pounds for Seeger, while Kayne Acton took fourth at 285.

Stonebreaker and Acton will travel to East Chicago on Saturday for semi-state action.

PREP BOYS BASKETBALL

Normal 73, Danville 50

NORMAL — The Danville boys basketball team hung with Normal Community in the first quarter on Friday with the Vikings only down 17-15.

But the Ironmen would outscore the Vikings 56-35 the rest of the way to get a 73-50 win in Big 12 Conference action.

JaVaughn Robinson had 16 points to lead Danville, while Devan Larkin had 14, CL Dye had eight and Perisis Menifield had six points.

Peyton Roman and Dexter Niekamp each had 17 points for Normal Community, while Jaheem Webber had 12 points.

The Vikings will host Teutopolis in a makeup game on Wednesday.

WATSEKA — Down 30-25 at halftime, the Comets rolled back and was able to pull out a razor-thin win over the Warriors.

Brody Taflinger had 14 points to lead Oakwood, while Cort Vermillion had 13 points, Jackson Dudley had 11 and Carsen Dudley added 10.

Peyton Schaumburg had 15 points to lead Watseka, while Myles Lynch had 14 and Hagen Hoy and Evan Labelle each had 10.

Oakwood was coming off a 67-42 win over Iroquois West on Friday. Alec Harrison had 13 points to lead the Comets, who was up 36-16 at halftime, while Vermillion had 12, Taflinger and Jackson Dudley each had 11, Bryson McDaniel had eight and Carsen Dudley added seven points.

The Comets will take on Salt Fork today.

At Watseka

Ayden Ingram had 20 points to lead the Blue Devils, who had a 25-9 lead after the first quarter and a 38-17 halftime lead, while Keison Peoples had 16, Chaz Dubois had 12 points, Micah Stanford had seven and Anderson Thomas and Dylan Farr each had six points.

Caleb Clutteur had nine points to lead the Bearcats, while Gage Vogel had five and Gavin Schunke added four.

The Blue Devils will play Georgetown-Ridge Farm on Tuesday.

GEORGETOWN — The First Baptist boys basketball team not only picked up a win, but also a milestone on Friday.

Jeremiah Watson scored his 1,000th point as the Knights beat Georgetown Ridge Farm 65-40.

Josiah Watson had 23 points to lead First Baptist, who had a 42-21 halftime lead, while Jeremiah Watson and Eli Epling each had 16.

JJ Hall led the Buffaloes with 10 points, while Deven Vice had nine, Landon Heck had six and Jase Latoz added five.

The Buffaloes will take on Hoopeston Area on Tuesday.

Evan LaBelle had 12 points to lead the Warriors, while Hagen Hoy had eight and Myles Lynch added six.

The Storm will travel to Oakwood on Tuesday.

The Trojans will travel to Seeger on Friday.

DANVILLE — Jaydah Arrowsmith had 16 points to lead the Comets to the win over the Hilltoppers on Monday.

Bella Bradford had 13 points for Oakwood, who had a 36-5 halftime lead, while Taylor Smooth had seven and Nikita Taylor and Gracie Hanner each had six points.

Addison Forsyth had seven points to lead Schlarman Academy, while Izzy Bogen had four and Evy Kelsey added three.

The Comets will face Hoopeston Area in a IHSA Class 2A regional on Saturday.

Claire Dixon had 14 points for Hoopeston Area, while Brylie Cox had six and Addyson Kelnhofer and Mady Klaber each had four points.

The Cornjerkers were coming off a 62-25 win over Heritage on Saturday.

Maddie Barnes had 25 points with six 3-pointers to lead Hoopeston Area, while Dixon had 22 points with six 3-pointers of her own.

The Cornjerkers will play Chrisman on Thursday, while the Buffaloes will take on Armstrong-Potomac on Thursday.

At Georgetown

Danville advances at regional

DANVILLE — The Lady Vikings took the final team qualifying spot in an IHSA regional on Saturday at Lincoln Lanes.

Phoenix Jimson had a 974 to lead Danville, while Armani Bankhead had a 897, Hannah Lowe had a 866, LinAnn Riggleman scored a 846 and Adrienne Michelletti added a 787 for a total team score of 4,370, edging Morton's 4,363 for fourth.

Also, Hoopeston Area's Alivia Wilson was one of the advancing individuals with a score of 892.

The Lady Vikings and Wilson will now advance to the sectional on Saturday, which will be held at Town and Country Lanes in Joliet.

PREP BOYS SWIMMING

Western Boone 126, Fountain Central 53

VEEDERSBURG, Ind. — The Mustangs could not get many first places as they lost to the Stars at home on Monday.

William Armstrong won in diving and Eli Sowder won in the 200 individual medley for Fountain Central, while Gage Harrison was second in the 100 freestyle, Hayden Kler was third in the 200 freestyle, Ayden Donaldson was third in the 50 freestyle and Brody Larkin was third in the 100 freestyle.

The 200 medley, 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relay teams each took second for the Mustangs, who will be in a triangular meet with North Vermillion and host North Montgomery on Wednesday.

PREP GIRLS SWIMMING

Rice moves on to state

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — Fountain Central's Mary Rice will go to the IHSAA State Meet after her performance in sectional play on Saturday.

Rice won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1 minute, 10.32 seconds and will start state action on Friday.

Also, Peyton Hocking took second in diving and will go on to a diving regional starting today.

MIDDLE SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL

Oglesby 30, Sidell Salt Fork 24

MACON — The Storm's season ended in the IESA Class 7-2A quarterfinals on Saturday at Macon Meridian High School.

Ali Abudayya had 11 points to lead Sidell Salt Fork, while Weston Church had seven, Carter Lindsey had four and Landon Downing added two.

The Storm end the season with a 17-2 record.
