LOCAL ROUNDUP: DACC men rallies to beat Lake Land

Nov. 30—DANVILLE — The Danville Area Community College men's basketball team saw itself down by 10 at halftime on Tuesday against Lake Land College.

But the Jaguars would make that up and then some in the second half, outscoring the Lakers 38-24 to get a 74-70 win at Mary Miller Gym.

Ryan Caddell and Payton Weemer each had 11 points for the Jaguars, while Jaydein Dunlap and Trevin Williams each had 10 points from the bench. Jameer Ajibade had nine points, Jaylen Simmons had eight and Donovan Parker added seven.

Williams had six rebounds while Parker had five rebounds and five blocks and Ajibade had five rebounds two assists and two steals.

The Jaguars will play Illinois Valley Community College on Dec. 6.

Oakwood 61, Decatur St. Teresa 57

ST. JOSEPH — Coming off winning the Tri-County Thanksgiving Tournament last week, the Oakwood boys basketball team started a new tournament on Tuesday.

The Comets beat Decatur St. Teresa 61-57 to start the Toyota of Danville Classic at St. Joseph-Ogden High School.

Alec Harrison had 20 points to lead Oakwood, while Carsen Dudley had 15, Cort Vermilllion had 10 and Jackson Dudley and Brody Taflinger each had eight points.

The Comets are 6-0 and after playing Cissna Park on Wednesday, they will play Paxton-Buckley-Loda today in Classic action.

The Blue Devils will try to regroup on Friday against Lexington.

The Tigers will travel to Villa Grove on Friday.

The Cornjerkers will play Notre Dame de La Salette Academy on Friday.

PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL

Seeger 43, N. Vermillion 33

CAYUGA, Ind. — The Seeger girls basketball team was able to get the early lead and hold on to beat North Vermillion 43-33.

Rylea Wetz had 15 points to lead the Patriots, while Addie Shrader had 12, Cadence White had 10 points and Hannah Froedge added six.

Braxtyn Dunham had nine to lead the Falcons, while Cadence Dunham had eight, Reagan Bean had seven and Lauren Ellis added four.

The Patriots will face Frontier at home on Thursday, while the Falcons will take on Parke Heritage on Dec. 5.

Lilly Hacquet had 13 points to lead Covington, who had a 26-11 halftime lead, while Alex Sutherlin had eight, Sydni Crain had seven and Emma Holycross added six.

Elle Jameson had 10 point to lead Armstrong-Potomac, while Cala Reifsteck had four and Makenna Ackerman scored three.

Covington will play North Montgomery on Thursday, while Armstrong-Potomac will play Milford on Thursday.

Henley Good had 19 points with four steals for the Mustangs, who was down 29-24 at halftime, but outscored the Oracles 30-15 in the second half, while Hannah Prickett had 11 points, Kacey Kirk Patrick had eight points, Rylee Simko had six points, Bella Bacon had four points, while KayLee Spragg had three points and Brailey Hoagland had three points with eight steals.

The Mustangs will stay on the road next Tuesday against Seeger.

Westville 40, Villa Grove 34

VILLA GROVE — The Westville girls basketball team was able to beat Villa Grove 40-34 on Monday.

Lani Gondzur had 14 points to lead the Tigers, while Gwen Bennett had 13 points, Hadley Jones had five and McKynze Carico added four.

The Tigers are 3-4 and will play Paxton-Buckley-Loda on Thursday.

Fountain Central sweeps Benton Central

VEEDERSBURG, Ind. — The Fountain Central swimming teams hosted Benton Central on Tuesday with the boys team winning 87-37 and the girls team winning 106-68.

In the girls meet, Mary Rice won the 100 yard breaststroke and 200 Individual Medley for the Mustangs, while Haley Webb won the 200 freestyle and was second in the 100 freestyle, Alydia Mellady won the 100 butterfly and was second in the 50 freestyle, Kaitie Dillion won the 500 freestyle and Peyton Hocking was first in diving.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Rice, Allie Dotson, Webb and Mellady won while the 200 medley relay team of Mia Nix, Rice, Elise Webb and Mellady also won.

Gage Harrison was first in the 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley and Eli Sowder won the 500 freestyle and 100 butterfly for Fountain Central in the boys meet, while Eli Davis won the 50 freestyle and was second in the 100 freestyle, Ayden Donaldson was first in the 100 backstroke and second in the 50 freestyle, Dallin Johnson won the 200 freestyle and William Armstrong won in diving.

The 200 medley relay team of Donaldson, Harrison, Sowder and Davis took first place, while Donaldson, Armstrong, Sowder and Davis won the 200 freestyle relay and Johnson, Harrison, Armstrong and Larkin won the 400 freestyle relay.

Both teams will face Seeger on Dec. 7.

PREP WRESTLING

Danville 66, Rantoul 15

DANVILLE — The Danville High School wrestling team started the season on the right foot on Tuesday with a 66-15 win over Rantoul.

Ty Rangel, Josiah Williams, Tristan Poplous, Phil Shaw IV, Phoenix Parker and Kamarion Miles all had pins for the Vikings, who will be in a meet with Unity at Champaign Centennial on Thursday.

N. Vermillion 42, Attica 39

CAYUGA, Ind. — The North Vermillion wrestling team got past Attica 42-39 on Tuesday.

Aden Rangel (126 pounds), Bradley Cope (165), Hayden Hack (175) and Aiden Hinchee won by pin for the Falcons, while Wyatt Walters (132), Andrew Botner (144) and Landen Baker (190) won by forfeit.

The Falcons will participate in the Fountain Central Invitational on Saturday.
