Local roundup: Andrews football rolls past Morehead on homecoming

Oct. 9—HIGH POINT — T.W. Andrews crushed Morehead 37-0 in Mid-State 2A Conference football Saturday afternoon in front of a homecoming crowd at A.J. Simeon Stadium. The Red Raiders improved to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

SOUTHWEST GUILFORD, SOUTHEAST GUILFORD

HIGH POINT — Southwest Guilford edged Southeast Guilford 26-20 in overtime Friday in Metro 4A Conference football at Southwest.

Corbin Wilson ran eight times for 78 yards and one touchdown, added a pass for 14 yards and a catch for 12 yards for the Cowboys (4-3 overall, 2-2 conference). Cale Lloyd completed eight passes for 67 yards and a touchdown.

Cam McCain chipped in 61 yards rushing, while Darius Hairston ran for two touchdowns and caught three passes for 31 yards and a touchdown. Jaylen Carl led the defense with 11 tackles. Hairston also had an interception.

GLENN, R.J. REYNOLDS

KERNERSVILLE — Glenn rolled past R.J. Reynolds 54-16 in Central Piedmont 4A Conference football Friday at Glenn. The Bobcats, who led 26-8 at halftime, improved to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

LEDFORD, MONTGOMERY CENTRAL

TROY — Ledford defeated Montgomery Central 21-10 in Mid-Piedmont 3A Conference football Friday at Montgomery Central.

Shay Ragland completed 9 of 12 passes for 192 yards and a touchdown while Alex Sanford ran 26 times for 127 yards and a touchdown to lead the Panthers (7-0 overall, 2-0 conference). Calvin Handsome Jr. also ran for a touchdown.

Cohen Batchek and Aidan Hooker each had 12 tackles to lead the defense followed by Cole Tesh with eight.

BOYS SOCCER

WESLEYAN CHRISTIAN, NORTHWEST GUILFORD

HIGH POINT — Wesleyan Christian topped Northwest Guilford 3-1 in nonconference boys soccer in front of a large homecoming crowd Friday night at Wesleyan's Sanford Field.

Taj Johnson had a goal and an assist to lead the Trojans (19-0-1), ranked No. 1 in the state overall and No. 17 in the country. Sean Jacobs and Isaiah McCarthy each had a goal while Nata Souza and Andrew Heeden each had an assist. Jaden DiFoggio got the win in goal.

CROSS-COUNTRY

HAGAN-STONE XC CLASSIC

GREENSBORO — Five area runners had top-25 finishes — including Ragsdale's Harrison Howard winning the boys race — to highlight Saturday's Hagan-Stone XC Classic cross-country meet at Hagan-Stone Park.

Howard won the boys race in 16:02.73. Also posting top-25 finishes were: Southwest Guilford's Faneal Tsegay (17th, 17:43.98) and Bishop McGuinness' Drew Pacholke (23rd, 17:59.44) in the boys race; Southwest's Faith Thomas (12th, 21:47.82) and High Point Blaze's Iman Ismail (18th, 22:21.68) in the girls race.

Science Hill won the boys team score with 56 points, ahead of Davie County with 74 in the 18-team field. Bishop was 10th with 249, Southwest was 12th with 314, Ragsdale was 14th with 349, and Trinity was 18th with 525. Science Hill also won the girls team score with 20 points, ahead of Galileo with 91.
