Game recap: Jordynn Dudley leads FSU soccer past Texas A&M in NCAA Tournament 2nd round

The No. 1 Florida State women's soccer team hosts No. 8-seed Texas A&M in the second round of the NCAA tournament Friday evening.

FSU (17-0-1) is undefeated as it looks to win its fourth national championship. The Seminoles, coached by ACC Coach of the Year Brian Pensky, opened the year by beating the Aggies 2-1 on Aug. 17.

In its NCAA women's soccer tournament opener, FSU eased past Morehead State 5-0 at the Seminole Soccer Complex. Onyi Echegini was named ACC Offensive Player of the Year after leading the conference with 13 goals, and Jordynn Dudley won ACC Freshman of the Year honors by netting 10 goals.

Texas A&M (10-7-4) beat Colorado 1-0 in their NCAA tournament opener on a Mia Pante goal. The Aggies are led by Jazmine Wilkinson, whose 10 goals this season were second in the SEC.

The winner of FSU-Texas A&M will play either Texas or Wisconsin on Sunday.

Florida State defeats Texas A&M 1-0, advances to quarterfinals vs. Texas Sunday

The Seminoles remain unbeaten this year following a close 1-nail victory over Texas A&M Friday at Seminole Soccer Complex in the NCAA Tournament Second Round.

Freshman Jordynn Dudley kicked in the game-winner in the 54th minute when she gained possession between two Texas A&M defenders, split them and deposited a goal into the right corner of the goal for the Seminoles to give them a 1-0 lead.

FSU outshot the Aggies 9-5 in the second half and 12-9 for the game. FSU goalkeeper Cristina Roque recorded five saves and recorded the shutout.

The Seminoles will host No. 5 Texas at 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the quarterfinals.

Jordynn Dudley gets yellow card for FSU

In the 87th minute, Jordynn Dudley was slightly contacted and went down. The ref blew the whistle, but not for a foul on the Texas A&M defender. The call was a yellow card for Dudley for flopping.

Watching the replay, it was more likely a no-call there. Dudley did embellish the hit, flailing to the ground. But she was dragged down enough where it should have been a no call.

FSU leads 1-0, 3:42 remaining.

Cristina Roque records two big saves, FSU maintains 1-0 lead

Cristina Roque saves a shot from Carissa Boeckmann in the 68th minute. Boeckmann had a clear angle at the goal and Roque made up great ground diving to her left to deflect the ball and FSU was able to clear.

In the 71st minute, Sam Smith attempted a shot at Roque and she was able to save it, with the ball going out of bounds to set up a corner. FSU was once again able to stop the attack.

Roque is up to five saves. Several times the fans at Seminole Soccer Complex have broken out the "Roque" chants for her.

Jordynn Dudley strikes on attack to give FSU a 1-0 lead

Freshman Jordynn Dudley gained possession between two Texas A&M defenders, split them and deposited a goal into the right corner of the goal for the Seminoles to give them a 1-0 lead in the 54th minute.

Beata Olsson had the assist on the goal for FSU.

FSU leads 1-0, 35 minutes remaining.

Second half underway for Texas A&M and FSU soccer

The second half is underway at Seminole Soccer Complex. The Seminoles have come out more aggressive this half, with three shots to none of Texas A&M.

Aggie's goalkeeper has a save in the half, off a shot from Onyi Echegeni.

There are 36 minutes left in the game.

Texas A&M and FSU soccer scoreless at halftime

Just like in the season opener in College State, Texas to begin the season, the Seminoles and Aggies were tied at 1 at halftime. FSU and Texas A&M ended the first half of their NCAA Tournament Second Round matchup in a scoreless tie Friday at Seminole Soccer Complex.

The Aggies have four shots to FSU's three and two shots on goal to the Seminoles one. FSU keeper Cristina Roque has two saves. The Seminoles have committed five fouls to the Aggies two.

FSU has had five corners and TAMU has one.

Mia Pante misses scoring opportunity

Texas A&M's Mia Pante had a great scoring opportunity with a chance to head the ball in with an out of position Cristina Roque in the 23rd minute. The ball however went off the top of the post and right to an FSU player to knock it away.

A couple of minutes later Kenna Caldwell had a shot on goal which was blocked by Roque. She has two saves already.

It's still scoreless with 19 minutes left in the first half.

Jazmine Wilkinson helped off the field for Texas A&M

Jazmine Wilkinson and Heather Gilchrist both go up for a ball and both mistime it. Wilkinson goes down in a heap with an injury and is helped off the field.

Still scoreless here at Seminole Soccer Complex with 25 minutes left in the first half.

The Aggies have two shots to none for the Seminoles.

FSU-Texas A&M NCAA second-round game underway

Florida State women's soccer second-round matchup in the NCAA Tournament is underway at 5:37 p.m.

The Seminoles are seeking to advance to the quarterfinals, which will be played Sunday at Seminole Soccer Complex.

It is 72 degrees with mostly clear skies at the time of kickoff. FSU will defend the goal toward the IPF football facility in the first half.

Mia Justus and Texas advance past Wisconsin

Former FSU backup goalkeeper Mia Justus and the No. 5 Texas Longhorns pulled of an upset over No. 4 Wisconsin with a 2-1 win in the first Second Round match in Tallahassee. Justus transferred to Texas following the 2022 season.

She had split time with FSU starter Cristina Roque during the 2021 and 2022 regular seasons.

Lexi Missimo scored the game-winning goal for the Longhorns in the 68th minute. Ashlyn Miller equalized the score in the 52nd minute after the Badgers led 1-0 at halftime behind an unassisted goal from Riley Philbin.

Justus had one save and allowed a goal.

Texas will play the winner of FSU-Texas A&M on Sunday in the quarterfinals.
