Final: Jalen Hurts throws 3 TD passes, Eagles top Dolphins 31-17 as Miami offense struggles

PHILADELPHIA -- The Miami Dolphins have a date with the reigning Super Bowl runner-up on Sunday Night Football.

Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins face their biggest test so far in the NFL regular season against Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. Keep scrolling for updates, and remember to refresh the page for the latest.

The Dolphins (5-1) are in the midst of a historic start on offense and feature the NFL's No. 1 total, rushing and scoring offense.

Running back Raheem Mostert is currently the NFL leader in total touchdowns with 11 on the season. He leads San Francisco star Christian McCaffrey, who has nine total touchdowns.

Star wide receiver Tyreek Hill currently leads the NFL in receiving yards (814) and has caught six touchdowns this season. He averages 19.4 yards per reception.

Dolphins vs. Eagles predictions: Philly is favored, but who do NFL experts think will win?

The Eagles (5-1) suffered their first loss of the 2023 season in their last game: a 20-14 loss to the New York Jets.

The Dolphins will face a major test in corralling Eagles wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. Veteran Dolphins defensive back Xavien Howard dealt with a groin injury after last week's win over the Carolina Panthers.

Miami owns the all-time series against Philadelphia with nine wins to the Eagles' six. Miami won the most recent matchup 37-31 on Dec. 21, 2019.

11:02 p.m. | Kenneth Gainwell scores from the 3 to give Eagles 31-17 lead

Going for it on fourth-and-one twice - and converting both times with the Tush Push, or Brotherly Shove - the Eagles killed a lot of time off the clock and probably iced the game with this score. The 13-play, 83-yard drive puts Philly up by 14 with 4:46 to play.

10:36 p.m. | Jalen Hurts TD pass to AJ Brown puts Eagles back in front

The Eagles drive 75 yards to retake the lead 24-17 with 15 seconds left in the third quarter. Everyone keeps saying Hurts is limping but he keeps making plays; that's his third TD pass of the night.

10:24 p.m. | Dolphins tie game at 17 on Jerome Baker's interception return

Cornerback Kader Kohou pressures Jalen Hurts, tips pass and Baker takes deflection 22 yards to the end zone. With 4:02 left in the third, it's a tie game.

10:17 p.m. | Zebras throwing flags at Dolphins, not Eagles

Midway through the third quarter, Miami has eight penalties for 60 yards. Philadelphia zero penalties. And don't you know Dolphins fans have noticed. Then, on a fourth-and-3, Tua's pass for Cedrick Wilson was incomplete but it appears an Eagles defensive back grabbed Wilson's facemask.

9:42 p.m. | Tua and Tyreek hook up for TD pass to cut lead to 17-10

Hill beats double coverage to cap the drive with 39 seconds left in the first half. Cedrick Wilson comes up with big catch on third-and-18 with a 29-yard reception. The Dolphins get the ball to start the second half.

9:32 p.m. | Jaylen Waddle injured and likely won't return

The Dolphins receiver hurt his back and was seen on the sideline with a heating pad before being taken to the locker room. Meanwhile, Miami continues to struggle on offense.UPDATE: Waddle did come back in the 4th quarter.

9:27 p.m. | Jalen Hurts scores on Tush Push to put Eagles up 17-3

The ball was placed on the Miami 1-yard line on a great fourth-down pass by Hurts to AJ Brown. The seven-play, 80-yard scoring drive has the crowd buzzing in Philly with 3:10 left until halftime.

9:15 p.m. | Dolphins offensive line - minus left guard Isaiah Wynn - getting pushed around

Wynn went out in the first quarter and it was his replacement who held on the Tua to Tyreek TD pass. Dolphins have not moved the ball except after their turnover.

9:07 p.m. | Jalen Hurts, Dallas Goedert connect for TD

The Eagles go up 10-3 with 11:25 to halftime on the 19-yard TD pass to the tight end. Christian Wilkins called for questionable roughing the passer penalty on the drive.

8:50 p.m. | Jason Sanders' 40-yard field goal ties game at 3-all

Sanders' kick came with 59 seconds left in the first quarter. Christian Wilkins' recovery of a fumble caused by Jaelan Phillips set up the Dolphins in Eagles' territory. Tua hit Tyreek Hill for a 6-yard TD pass, but Miami was called for holding.

8:35 p.m. | Jake Elliott field goal gives Eagles quick 3-0 lead

The Eagles took the opening kickoff and drove into red-zone territory, but the Dolphins defense stiffened and Philadelphia had to settle for a field goal. First boos of the evening were heard on Eagles' third-down call that saw Jalen Hurts come up well short of the goal line.

7 p.m. | Xavien Howard, Connor Williams inactive for Dolphins

The Dolphins will be without two key starters who had been listed as questionable for tonight's game against the Eagles.

Cornerback Xavien Howard (groin) is inactive. With Jalen Ramsey in the early stages of resuming practice from a knee injury, this means the Dolphins will face the league's No. 2 offense without either starting Pro Bowl cornerback.

The active cornerbacks for Miami are Kader Kohou, Eli Apple, rookie Cam Smith, Parry Nickerson and Justin Bethel.

The other news on the release of the inactive list is that receiver Chase Claypool is active for the first time as a Dolphin. Running back Jeff Wilson also is active for the first time this season.

The Eagles are without two starters in the secondary: cornerback Bradley Roby (shoulder) and safety Reed Blankenship (ribs).
