Woodlands' Eric Woodberry (10) drives to the basket in the boys basketball Class B semifinal game against Westlake at Westchester County Center in White Plains on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024.

Sunday

Class C

No. 1 Haldane (16-3) vs. No. 3 Leffell School (13-8)

Starting lineups

Leffell: Russell Wechsler, Jascha Weiss, Asher Friedland, Will Hirsch, Noam Andron.

Haldane: Ross Esposito, Fallou Faye, Michael Murray, Nate Stickle, Matthew Nachamkin.

First quarter

3:42 Matthew Nachamkin with a pair of 3s and one bucket in the paint has the Blue Devils up 10-4.

End 1 Haldane 19, Leffell School 6: Nachamkin and Haldane showed no signs of rust following the prolonged layoff. The senior forward had 11 points in the quarter and was 3 for 3 from behind the arc. The Lions need a secondary scorer. Wechsler has all three buckets.

Second quarter

2:58 Michael Murray and Luke Bozsik each strike twice from long range, giving Haldane a 34-13 lead.

Halftime Haldane 38, Leffell School 15: Blue Devils had a late 10-0 run. Lions are not getting a lot of clean looks against this 1-2-2 zone. And if they miss, Haldane is all over the boards. Slowing the game down is likely a topic of conversation in the Leffell locker room.

Third quarter

3:33 The Lions are on a 9-4 run Noam Anderson cut the deficit to 42-24 with a three-point play. Blue Devils are getting a little ahead of themselves and called time to settle down.

No. 3 New Rochelle (19-3) vs. No. 5 Mount Vernon (13-6)

Starting lineups

Mount Vernon: Hadi Adeyi, Justin Muhammad, Kai Harvey, Nate Edwards, Tavien Tyler.

First quarter

End 1 Mount Vernon 4, New Rochelle 4. If you like physical defense, this is your game. Teams are a combined 4 for 21 from the field and have turned the ball over seven times. Malik Gasper was called for an early offensive foul and then got tangled up underneath away from the play that resulted in a double foul call.

Second quarter

5:34 Kas Mirza had hit three times from behind the arc in a span of 60 seconds. The space and time are there because Mount Vernon is so focused on crowding Gasper in the paint. New Rochelle leads 15-6. Huguenots are 4 for 4 from the field to start the quarter.

2:04 Tavien Tylers pulls up for 2. Knights within 19-15. Huguenots are 4 for 8 from the line.

1:08 Time out New Rochelle. Kas Mirza with a still and a layup got Huguenots up 21-15, but B.J. Robinson answered in a hurry.

Halftime New Rochelle 21, Mount Vernon 17. Both teams shot much better that quarter. Turnovers continue to be an issue both ways. Each team had five in the quarter. Half-court offense is hard to come by and both teams are getting back so transition points are scarce, too.

Tavern Tyler of Mount Vernon celebrates with teammates after Mount Vernon defeated New Rochelle 41-37 to win the section 1 Class AAA Boys Basketball Championship at The Westchester County Center in White Plains March 3, 2024.

3:40 Here come the free throw issues again. Malik Gasper 0 for 2 with Huguenots up 37-31.

2:43 Time out. New Rochelle still up 37-31 and tension is building. Huguenots ball. Still just a two possession game and New Rochelle is having a hard time catching and holding the ball.

2:15 Tavien Tyler quick-release, deep 3 gets the Knights within 37-34. The standout junior has 10 points for Mount Vernon this quarter.

1:07 New Ro coach Rasaun Young saves a dead-end possession with a timeout. Tavien Tyler has knotted the score 37-37. He's unreal. The Huguenots have seven turnovers this quarter.

:50.7 Tavien Tyler draws a charge. He's everywhere. Mount Vernon ball. Time out.

:6.6 Tavien Tyler is fouled, gets one FT. New Rochelle pushes for a quick shot, misses but gets the ball after it goes out off the Knights. Time out.

:3.8 Lee Hester lobs inbounds pass to Malik Gasper, who is fouled in the paint. Missed the first. Missed the second.

:3.1 Tavien Tyler gets fouled. Hits both. Time out Knights, up 40-37.

:00.9 Nate Edwards intercepts the long inbounds pass and is fouled.

Halftime Suffern 31, Peekskill 30: Jaiden Clemente with a tough layup at the buzzer for the Mounties, who got more aggressive and attacked the rim, closing on a 13-6 run.
