Live updates: Colorado State football plays at Hawaii with bowl on the line

HONOLULU — The last game of the season or not?

The storylines are simple in this one.

The Colorado State football team is playing at Hawaii late, late Saturday night (9 p.m. Mountain kickoff) in the last game of the weekend.

If the Rams win it's not the final game of the season as CSU would earn a bowl trip. A loss? Then it's on to 2024.

Below are notes pregame and updates throughout the game from on the ground in Hawaii.

Hawaii wins it

Oh my god.

Unreal. Hawaii gets into field goal range and does the "mayday" field goal rush and hits a 51-yarder in chaos to win it.

Hawaii 27, Colorado State 24.

No bowl for the Rams. Insane finish.

Colorado State ties it!

Wow, what a sequence!

CSU has a 4th and 8 from its own 30 and somehow Hawaii lets Tory Horton behind the defense for a 70-yard TD.

BFN then hits Horton for the 2 to tie.

It's somehow 24-24 with 54 seconds to go.

CSU's last chance

CSU gets ball at own 28 with 2:27 to go after Chigozie Anusiem blocks a 45-yard field goal.

Rams down eight.

Missed field goal

CSU's Jordan Noyes attempts a 53-yard field goal after Rams forced a 3-and-out and got a couple first downs, but it comes up short.

Hawaii ball at own 36 with 4:25 to go, UH up 24-16.

Colorado State touchdown

Rams stay in it with a much-needed drive. Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi with an absolute dart to Louis Brown for a 17-yard TD. CSU went for 2 but pass to Holker fell incomplete.

It capped a 10 play, 74-yard drive in 4:20.

Hawaii lead is 24-16 with 9:05 to go.

Hawaii field goal

A 15-yard penalty forced Hawaii back from the 3-yard line and eventually into a field goal attempt. Matthew Shipley from 35 yards is good. It was a whopping 17-play, 74-yard drive in 8:16.

Hawaii leads 24-10 with 13:32 to go.

End third quarter

Hawaii 21, Colorado State 10.

Hawaii is at CSU's 3 and looking to bury this game.

Hawaii touchdown

Teams traded punts to begin the half and then Hawaii's offense again takes control.

A 38-yard pass puts Hawaii in scoring territory. Hawaii then has a false start that should make it third-and-long, but CSU's Marshon Oxley gets an unsportsmanlike penalty after the play to give Hawaii a first-and-goal.

Next play Tamatoa Mokiao-Atimalala runs in for an 8-yard TD.

CSU in trouble, down 21-10 with 8:24 left in 3Q.

Halftime

Hawaii 14, Colorado State 10.

Rams need a second-half comeback to go bowling. CSU has 228 yards of offense but a pick in the end zone and a first-and-goal at the 3 that led to just a field goal.

Hawaii with 238 yards of offense as CSU's defense has struggled. Hawaii is averaging 8.5 yards per play.

Missed field goal

CSU went for it on a 4th and 8 inside Hawaii's territory and failed. Hawaii quickly moves ball and attempts 43-yard field goal, but it's wide right.

Hawaii lead still 14-10.

Hawaii touchdown

Hawaii is absolutely gashing CSU. Warriors go 75 yards in five plays and hit CSU with the receiver pass, with Chuuky Hines to Devon Tauaefa for a 26-yard score.

Hawaii already has 202 yards of offense.

CSU down 14-10 with 6:32 until half.

CSU field goal

Rams take the lead, but a big missed chance. Hawaii had three personal fouls to keep CSU alive on the drive and Rams had a first-and-goal from the 3.

CSU went backwards and Jordan Noyes settled for a 22-yard field goal.

It's 10-7 CSU with 9:27 until half.

The third personal foul was a late hit on Justin Marshall, who left the field injured and seemingly in great pain.

End first quarter

It's 7-7 after Hawaii capitalizes on the interception.

Hawaii touchdown

Hawaii really takes advantage of interception. Warriors go 80 yards in nine plays and finish with a 12-yard TD from Brayden Schager to Steven McBride.

Both offenses really moving the ball. CSU could have/should have gone up two scores but turnover proves very costly.

It's 7-7 with 8 seconds left in first quarter.

Interception

Fowler-Nicolosi hits Horton on a 46-yard deep ball and CSU seems to be in business for another score, but a few plays later BFN's pass into the end zone intended for Horton comes a bit late and it's picked off.

Big play there from Hawaii.

CSU forces punt

Hawaii gets three first downs on opening drive, but Rams force 4th-and-10 at 43 and Hawaii punts.

It should have been downed deep, but goes into end zone. Rams ball at own 20, up 7-0.

Colorado State touchdown

A perfect start for Colorado State!

Justin Marshall races down right side for a 21-yard TD to cap a nine-play, 75-yard drive in 3:38.

He started at RB and had five carries for 34 yards. CSU went 2-2 on third downs. The play prior to the TD was a 10-yard pass to Horton on third-and-9. Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi went 3-3 for 39 yards on drive.

CSU up 7-0 with 11:22 left in first quarter.

CSU ball first

Hawaii wins the toss and defers. Rams will receive first-half kickoff.

It's 77 degrees at kick.

The Jay Norvell-Timmy Chang relationship

CSU coach Jay Norvell, while at Nevada, hired Timmy Chang from the low ranks of college football. It's been a steady rise since for Chang, a legendary Hawaii quarterback who is now in his second year in charge.

Norvell called Hawaii's athletic director to push Chang for the job. There's a strong friendship and mutual bond.

"I'm really proud of Tim and what he's done there. I know he's really working and developing the players there," Norvell said this week. "That's really the quality of a good coach is he's going to develop a team, and that team is going to have esprit de corps, they're going to play hard for one another, battle you to the very end and they're going to come to play every Saturday."
