Live updates: Colorado State football hosts San Diego State

These teams have not played since 2020.

For a conference opponent, it's fairly rare to see the San Diego State and Colorado State football teams play.

They meet Saturday, Nov. 11 at Canvas Stadium at 5 p.m.

Follow along here for updates throughout the game.

Final

Colorado State 22, San Diego State 19

San Diego State touchdown

It's really game on now. San Diego State's Jaylon Armstead with a 2-yard TD run on 4th and goal.

It's now just 22-19 CSU with 2:04 to go. Two timeouts left for SDSU.

CSU fumble

Uh oh. CSU trying to create problems. Rams putting together a strong drive and then Vann Schield fumbles just inside the red zone.

San Diego State recovers. SDSU ball at own 20 down 22-21 with 8:34 to go.

San Diego State touchdown

On a 3rd and goal from the 8, the blitz misses Jalen Mayden and he scurries for an 8-yard TD run. Aztecs go for two and CSU shuts it down.

With 11:37 to go in the game it's 22-12 CSU.

End third quarter

Colorado State 22, San Diego State 6.

Rams win the quarter by a point, but SDSU has the ball at CSU's 34 to begin the fourth.

Needless to say, but CSU must finish this one off.

San Diego State field goal

Aztecs drive again but stall near the red zone and Plascencia hits a 38-yard field goal.

CSU leads 22-6 with 3:06 left in third quarter.

Colorado State touchdown

A huge response from CSU's offense. Rams go 75 yards in seven plays. Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi throws a much-needed dime for 41 yards to Justus Ross-Simmons.

Rams then convert a third down on a pass to Holker. Then Justin Marshall with a strong 5-yard TD run.

Huge answer. CSU leads San Diego State 22-3 with 7:31 to go in the third quarter.

San Diego State field goal

SDSU's first drive of second half begins with a 39-yard run.

Aztecs then get to CSU's 12 but the defense holds and forces a Gabriel Plascencia 22-yard field goal.

CSU lead is 15-3 with 10:10 left in third quarter.

Colorado State punts

Feels like a CSU TD on opening drive of third quarter could have been the game but Rams get one first down and punt.

Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi is way off target today. Three badly missed throws on first drive and he's now 13-25 for 128 yards.

Halftime

Colorado State 15, San Diego State 0.

San Diego State with an interception of a CSU Hail Mary to end the half, but overall solid for the Rams. CSU's defense absolutely dominant.

Rams out-gaining SDSU 264-55 at half. Rams have 107 rush yards and lead time of possession 18:36 to 11:24. SDSU is averaging 2.6 yards per play.

CSU will receive second-half kick. Rams have been outscored 37-0 in third quarter in last three weeks. Need to improve that here.

Colorado State touchdown

Now there is a nice drive from CSU. Rams go 90 yards in eight plays with a fun variety.

Tory Horton with another trick-play pass and he hit a wide-open Dylan Goffney for 42 yards.

Rams finish it off with a 1-yard run from Dallin Holker on a direct snap. Yardage is now 224-22 for CSU. Big drive to make the dominance reflect on scoreboard.

CSU up 15-0 with 4:19 until half.

Colorado State field goal

CSU freshman running back Justin Marshall makes an impact! Big runs get Rams into red zone and he looked like he would score but stumbled and fell. He picked up 50 yards on his first three college carries.

It ends up costly as CSU stalls in the red zone. A Jordan Noyes 30-yard field goal makes it 8-0 Rams with 10:22 until half.

CSU is out-gaining SDSU 149-17.

End first quarter

CSU 5, San Diego State 0.

Rams have a 2nd and 17 at own 17 to begin second quarter.

Really bad first 15 for Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi. He's fumbled two snaps and is 4-8 for 40 yards with a couple poor misses. CSU's defense has held San Diego State to 17 total yards on 13 plays.

Colorado State field goal

CSU's offense goes backwards on a pass interference call before moving back forward a bit but another failure.

Rams settle for a field goal after starting drive at San Diego State's 18. It's a 35-yard kick from Jordan Noyes. CSU leads 5-0 with 2:42 left first quarter.

San Diego State error

CSU has to punt on the series after the safety punt. It's a bomb from Turner and the SDSU returner for some reason touches the bouncing ball and Henry Blackburn pounces on it.

CSU ball at San Diego State's 18.

Safety!

San Diego State has a 3rd and 7 from its own 7 after the punt and elects to pass. Mohamed Kamara makes them pay with a sack in the end zone for a safety.

He has 11.5 sacks this season and now 29 in his career, passing Brady Smith for second in program history.

It's CSU's first safety since 2015 against UTSA.

It's 2-0 CSU with 5:58 left in the first quarter.

CSU gets out of danger

A San Diego State punt pinned the Rams inside their own 1 but CSU puts together a decent drive but stalls at about the 40.

A great punt for CSU pins San Diego State at its 4.

Teams trade punts

Both teams go 3-and-out on their first drives of the game.

Another Mackey Award?

CSU star Trey McBride won the John Mackey Award in 2021 as the nation's top tight end.

Could the Rams have another? Dallin Holker is officially one of nine semifinalists, announced this week. He's the only Group of 5 player on the list.

Injury watch

As is always the case this time of season, there are some key injury updates to watch. The good news for CSU is it appears better news than a week ago when the Rams were without several key defensive players.

Cam Bariteau (defensive line), Nuer Gatkuoth (defensive line) and Chigozie Anusiem (cornerback) are all starters who missed last week's game. Jay Norvell said he expects all to play vs. San Diego State.

Nickel Ayden Hector tried to return last week but is now out for the season (shoulder) due to surgery.

Freshman cornerback TJ Crandall missed some practice time this week. Keep an eye on him pregame.

Star receiver Tory Horton will again play through injury. He actually practiced more this week than he has in previous weeks.

Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi has freshman record

CSU quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi has passed Pete Thomas for most passing yards by a freshman in program history.

He has 2,663, one more than Thomas had in 2010. There are three regular season games left.

Ram Walk finished

CSU held its weekly team Ram Walk, where former players speak to the team on the game field the night before the game.

Ed Rhoades spoke to the team.

No snowballs, please

CSU's last home game saw the Rams penalized for an unsportsmanlike penalty for continued throwing of snowballs into the Air Force bench.

CSU put out a sportsmanship video ahead of Saturday's game, asking for no penalties.

Good news: No snow is in the forecast.
