Game recap: Indiana football falls to Illinois 48-45 in overtime

Indiana football has to win out to become bowl eligible, and the Illinois Fighting Illini also seek a bowl berth when the teams meet in Champaign, Illinois.

IU (3-6, 1-5) is coming off a 20-14 victory over Wisconsin in which the Hoosiers' Aaron Casey earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors. Illinois (4-5, 2-4) is coming off a 1-point, last-minute win over Minnesota. The Illini's Isaiah Williams earned Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors, while running back Kaden Feagin was Freshman of the Week.

Any faint hopes of bowl eligibility are extinguished as the Hoosiers' defense falters.

John Paddock passes for 507 yards -- the second-most in Illini history -- and 4 touchdowns.

Isaiah Williams has 9 catches for 200 yards and 2 TDs, including the winning 21-yarder in overtime. Pat Bryant has 6 catches for 146 yards and a TD, and Casey Washington has 5 catches for 99 yards and a TD.

Reggie Love III adds 140 rushing yards and 2 TDs.

Brendan Sorsby passes for 289 yards and 2 TDs to Donoven McCulley, who has 11 catches for 137 yards. Sorsby also hits DeQuece Carter with the tying TD in the final minute of regulation and rushes for 2 TDs.

10 a.m.: Illinois quarterback Luke Altmyer is out

The Illini reported two hours before kickoff that quarterback Luke Altmyer is out for the game. He suffered an injury late in last week's game against Minnesota. John Paddock, a transfer from Ball State, led a late drive by completing 3-of-3 passes for 85 yards, including the winning touchdown to Isaiah Williams with 50 seconds to go. Paddock gets the start against IU.

Altmyer has completed 64.8% of his passes this season for 1,883 yards, 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Paddock is 15-of-26 passing for the year, for 222 yards and 2 TDs.
