Lila Morris' treys in OT give Brook Hill 54-53 win over Lubbock-Trinity Christian

Feb. 19—BULLARD — Lila Morris hit the game winning (and the game tying) baskets from three point land in the final 1:30 of overtime to give Brook Hill a thrilling 54-53 victory over Lubbock-Trinity Christian Monday evening at Herrington Gymnasium.

The Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools Division 4 Area win advances Brook Hill (28-8) to a date with either Arlington Grace Prep or Carrollton-Prince of Peace later this week.

With the Lady Lions leading, 51-48, Morris, a junior, sank her first triple in the overtime segment with 1:30 showing on the scoreboard, to tie the game, 51-51.

Trinity Christian's Allie Klein banked a shot off of the glass with 1:16 remaining in overtime to put the Lady Lions back in front, 53-51.

Morris got an open look from the right wing with 14 ticks left in the extra segment and made good on the shot, putting the Lady Guard in front, 54-53.

The Lady Lions moved the ball up the floor quickly and had three, shots amid heavy traffic, from underneath the basket in the final eight ticks, but each shot missed its intended mark.

Brook Hill made its living on the long ball, canning nine shots from beyond the arc compared to the Lady Lions' three.

Trailing 45-42, Remy Tonroy swished a trey from the right corner with :09 left in regulation to tie the score and force the overtime session.

Brook Hill head coach Jeremy Hubbard called time out with :17 second remaining in order to draw up the play, which worked to perfection.

The Lady Lions went on a 6-0 run to nail down a 45-42 lead with 1:04 left in regulation, which forced Brook Hill to go to their long game.

The game was close from the get go with the Lady Guard leading 19-15 at halftime and 32-31 going into the fourth period.

Four members of the Lady Guard squad finished in double figures, with Breanna Hill leading the way with 17 points. She also was Brook Hill's top rebounder, with seven.

Morris and Tonroy scored 11 points apiece and Savannah Onley tossed in 10.

Tonroy and Hill dropped in three triples apiece for Brook Hill.

Tobie McGehee of Trinity Christian led all players with 20 points. She completed a double-double by coming down with 14 rebounds.

Also logging a double-double for the visitors was Norris (10 points, 12 rebounds).

Monday's home playoff game was the first in school history for Lady Guard Basketball.
