Lexington's Brody Earick named Ohio Cardinal Conference Defensive Player of the Year

MANSFIELD — The Lexington Minutemen won their ninth Ohio Cardinal Conference championship during the 2023 season.

And they did it with a defensive tenacity that was unmatched around the league. It was spearheaded by the 2023 Ohio Cardinal Conference Defensive Player of the Year, senior Brody Earick, as the league announced its all-conference boys soccer selections.

Earick led a defense that posted four shutouts through 13 games and only allowed 12 goals without having a single game of allowing more than two goals in a contest. The Minutemen only allowed five goals in OCC play.

Earick was joined by fellow seniors Terrance Corbin, Nolan Steward and Zach Turlo as first team All-OCC selections. Corbin joined Earick on the defensive end of the pitch as a defensive mid. Turlo scored five goals and handed out one assist this season and impacted the game at multiple levels. Steward has been stout in goal for the Minutemen with 57 saves and has also handed out two assists on long punts.

The Madison Rams had two first teamers with Degan Herr and Joey Walker topping the list. Herr has five goals and five assists while Walker has 19 goals and eight assists. Mansfield Senior's Griffin DeBolt was also a first team selection after posting 11 goals and five assists.

The Lexington trio of Jaxson Husty, Dylan George and Will Perkins were joined by Madison's Randy Jamieson and Brayden Rogers and Mansfield Senior's Justin Crall and Quinn DeBolt as second team All-OCC selections. Lexington's Jack Hiebel and Lucas Dove, Madison's CJ Steffey and Will Jamieson and Mansfield Senior's Caleb Bowman and Braxton Hock were honorable mention selections.

Lexington coach Peter Them was named the OCC Coach of the Year after piloting the Minutemen to their 15th league championship in program history.
