Lee-Scott defeats Chambers 14-6: Three takeaways from the AISA season opener

Reigning AISA-AAA state champions Lee-Scott Academy opened the AISA high school football season hosting Chambers.

After Lee-Scott's Miles Zachry returned the opening kickoff back for the first touchdown of the game, only two other touchdowns was scored in the 14-6 Lee-Scott win against Chambers.

Here are 3 takeaways from the AISA season opener

Dominant defensive performance from both teams

Chambers' offense was unable to see the red zone until the fourth quarter because of the swarming Lee-Scott defense. Lee-Scott forced three fumbles and recovered two of them.

Lee-Scott’s secondary was the most consistent unit of the night as they finished with several pass deflection’s almost resulting in interceptions.

Chambers defense allowed one touchdown from the Lee-Scott offense, which came seconds before halftime in the second quarter. The Chambers defensive line flustered the Lee-Scott line causing them to make mistakes throughout the game.

Lee-Scott offensive miscues

Lee-Scott shot themselves in the foot on offense putting together one successful scoring drive in the second quarter. The offensive line struggled holding the Chambers defensive front during some drives. And delay of game penalties in the second half caused for missed scoring opportunities for Lee-Scott.

Can Lee-Scott repeat as AISA-AAA Champions?

With the season still young Lee-Scott has a full season to clean up the minor issues seen on opening night. In head coach Buster Daniel's fourth season as head coach of Lee-Scott, he has a talented group whose capable of winning state again in 2023. With a week to shake off the rust with a bye, Lee-Scott will host Monroe Academy on Sept. 1.

The AISA opening week will continue Friday, Aug. 18.
