LeBron James’ son Bronny James suffers cardiac arrest at basketball practice

Bronny James, the 18-year-old son of Lakers star LeBron James, went into cardiac arrest during a basketball practice Monday, his family said Tuesday.

The teenager, who is an incoming freshman for the USC Trojans basketball team, was treated by medical staffers and hospitalized, a representative for his parents told TMZ.

“He is now in stable condition and no longer in ICU. We ask for respect and privacy for the James family and we will update media when there is more information,” the representative said in a statement.

“LeBron and Savannah wish to publicly send their deepest thanks and appreciation to the USC medical and athletic staff for their incredible work and dedication to the safety of their athletes.”

USC did not immediately respond to a Daily News request for comment.

Bronny, a 6-foot-3 guard, committed to USC in May as a four-star recruit out of Los Angeles’ Sierra Canyon School. The 2023 McDonald’s All-American is projected to be a first-round pick in next year’s NBA Draft.

The medical incident occurred less than seven months after Bills safety Damar Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest on the field during a nationally televised game against the Cincinnati Bengals in January. Hamlin, 25, was cleared to make his NFL return in April.

“Prayers to Bronny & The James family as well,” Hamlin tweeted Tuesday. “Here for you guys just like you have been for me my entire process.”

LeBron James, a four-time NBA champion, has been open about his desire to play with Bronny in the NBA. Earlier this month at the ESPY Awards, James announced plans to return for a 21st NBA season after pondering retirement following the Lakers’ elimination in the 2023 Western Conference Finals.

“What brings me back every year is watching and coaching my boys and their teammates,” James, who also has a 16-year-old son and 8-year-old daughter, said at the awards show. “I see those kids and it brings me right back to why I play. Those kids get me back to where I need to be. It’s the pure love of this beautiful game.”

The 38-year-old James, who last season became the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, has also played for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat and is entering his sixth season with Los Angeles.
