Lancaster Inferno, which includes 4 Berks players, falls to Santa Clarita Blue Heat in United Women's Soccer semifinal

Jul. 23—The Lancaster Inferno allowed two goals in stoppage time to fall to the Santa Clarita Blue Heat 3-2 in a United Women's Soccer national semifinal Saturday at the College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, Calif.

The Inferno, thanks in large part to contributions from its Berks contingent of Exeter grads Jackie Richards and Taylor Mentzer, Conrad Weiser grad Grace George and Kutztown University grad Maddie Mohr, led 2-0 and were minutes away from a berth in the national championship match against the Michigan Jaguars.

Santa Clarita's Ally Lemos scored on a penalty kick in the 84th minute.

Zoe Burns then tied it on a goal at 90:39 before Amanda Perez scored the game-winner in the 93rd minute.

Lancaster, making its third appearance in the final four, was unable to tie it in the three minutes of stoppage time remaining.

The Inferno took a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute when Mohr scored off a cross from Richards.

Lancaster made it 2-0 in the 62nd minute when Mentzer scored after receiving a through ball from Richards.
