Lake Wales grad Alante Fenner hosting basketball camp, alumni game in June

Alante Fenner now lives in Atlanta and is playing pro basketball in Portugal, but he’s still giving back to his home town.

A member of the Lake Wales 2012 state champion basketball team, Fenner is organizing a youth basketball camp and alumni game for early June.

The Alante Fenner Weekend includes a clinic that will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 8, for boys and girls ages 8 to 17. A pro-am celebrity basketball game will be held at 7 p.m. on June 9. Both events will be held at Lake Wales High School.

“It’s just like I wanted to do something to get the community together,” Fenner said. “People have been asking me to do something and put stuff together. So it's just my way of like bringing everybody together and trying to bring the community back together nd see some of the guys that made it from our area in Polk County and just drop some knowledge on the kids to show them that everybody can make it from Polk County. Just all how you apply yourself.”

Fenner is working with his brother, Savonte Frazier, to put the events together. Fenner said he’s been working to get sponsors to help lower the cost of registration.

Admission to the alumni game is $5. The money raised from the alumni game will go to the Lake Wales boys basketball program.

Among the players who will work the camp include Corey Sanders, Kevin Capers, and Fenner, along with women players Diamond Battles from Winter Haven and Zykira Lewis from Bartow, both former UCF players.

Among those expected to play in the alumni game include Dwayne Bacon, Keon Clergeot, Antonio Blakeney, Dominique Jones, Ronaldo Segu, Macus Capers, Kevin Capers, Sanders and Fenner. Fenner also promised "a few more surprise guests."

The teams will be coached by Ladarian Wilson and Russell Wilson, both veterans of the 2012 Highlanders.

A 2012 graduate of Lake Wales High School, Fenner went on to star at Savannah State and has played overseas for six years. He has played in Portugal, Greece, Denmark, Cyprus, Dominican Republic, and Chile.

“I love it, man,” he said. “Actually, it's amazing because you get to experience different cultures and see different things outside of America. It’s a different level of peace. When you're over here working out every day, you get to perfect your craft everyday and just get the balance and think about stuff like outside of basketball and come up with ideas like this and give back to the community and bring the community back together.”
