Lady Panthers dominate Lady Warriors

Dec. 5—A well-balanced Hibriten girls' basketballl team executed on both ends of the court to defeat West Caldwell 72-8 Friday night at West Caldwell High School.

With the win, the Lady Panthers are now 3-0 overall, while the Lady Warriors dropped to 0-3.

West Caldwell controlled the game at the opening tip, but a traveling call gave the ball back to Hibriten, which responded with a jump shot from sophomore Aamori Patterson.

The Lady Panthers constantly pressured West Caldwell's ball handlers, forcing turnovers and bad shots.

Hibriten anticipated ball movement on defense and constantly disrupted the Lady Warrior offense.

With dominant rebounding, accurate shooting from the perimeter and inside, and hustle, Hibriten cruised to a 30-2 first-quarter lead.

In the second quarter, Hibriten picked up where it left off as junior point guard Karlee Starnes was tenacious on defense and a confident shooter.

Senior power forward Jada Brown also displayed great confidence from the perimeter and was strong in transition.

West Caldwell junior point guard Cheyenne Brittain scored two baskets within the final two minutes of the second quarter.

Still, the Lady Panther defense smothered the Lady Warrior offense for most of the game, and the Hibriten girls took a 53-6 lead into the locker room.

The quickness advantage Hibriten had, along with the defensive pressure, scoring abilities both inside and out, and hustle from starters and bench, proved to be too much for the Lady Warriors to overcome.

Aamori Patterson led Hibriten with 25 points, Jada Brown scored 14 points, Emma Poarch contributed 13 points, and Karlee Starnes finished with 12 points.

Hibriten head coach Maury Patterson said it's early in the season, and it's important to practice hard and play the same way.

"I only have six full-time varsity players and four that play J.V. and varsity, so it helps to learn to play hard the entire game," he said.

Patterson also said Hibriten will continue to practice hard and grow as a team.
