Lady Devils advance to meet Gouverneur Class B semi-finals

Feb. 15—Salmon River made the OFA Girls work very hard for a 37-35 Section 10 Class B quarter-final game on Wednesday at home. The fourth seeded Devils followed up two NAC Central Division wins but had to regroup after falling behind the Shamrocks 13-6 in the first quarter to advance into a semi-final game at top-seeded Gouverneur on Friday.

The other quarter-final game saw third seeded Potsdam drop sixth seeded Potsdam 56-45.

OFA 37 — SR 35: "The girls worked for the win. Salmon River played hard," said OFA Coach Shannon LaFave.

"Tonight was the first time we have everyone together all week. We have had a lot of people sick."

Amaya LaFlair tallied six of her game-high 20 points in an 11-4 second quarter turnabout and scored eight points in the fourth quarter including a conversion at the rim in heavy traffic to give the Devils a 37-33 lead with 24.5 seconds remaining.

Tara Ransom, who sparked the Shamrocks' 13-6 first quarter lead with six points, followed with two free throws with 5.6 seconds to play but the Devils inbounded the ball twice to consume the final game time. LaFlair went 5-6 at the foul line and complemented her scoring with four assists and three rebounds and Carlee Thompson (6 points, 10 rebounds) and Ireland McNally (5 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists) provided active games inside.

Cadey Cole tallied four points and Meriam Skamperle added two points with six rebounds.

Ransom led Salmon River with 18 points and Kaidance Sunday dropped in 11. Ariyah LaFrance and Shania Stewart added three points and one point.

Potsdam 56 — N-N 45: The Stoners opened a 32-18 halftime lead advanced to a semi-final game at Canton with Jasmine McKnight and Katie Todd combining for 28 and 16 points. Olivia Plonka led N- 23 points.
