La Salle High lacrosse falls to Radnor in PIAA Class 3A title game

La Salle High struck first in the opening seconds of Saturday's PIAA Class 3A boys' lacrosse title game at Penn State University, but powerful Radnor took control from there en route to a 9-6 win over the Explorers.

The victory gave the Raptors their fourth straight PIAA Class 3A title (and fifth overall) and also avenged a 10-9, triple overtime loss to La Salle High in the regular season. The Explorers last PIAA title came in 2019.

The loss marked the second straight time that Radnor has ended La Salle High's season. Last year, the Raptors, who have won 16 straight PIAA Class 3A tournament games, beat the Explorers in the PIAA Class 3A semifinals.

La Salle High, the PIAA District 12 champion, ended its season with a 23-2 record, with the only other loss coming against Inter-Academic League power Malvern Prep. Radnor, the third-place finisher out of District One, finished at 21-5.

La Salle High, which allowed only eight goals in its three PIAA tournament games leading up to the final, scored with just eight seconds gone in the first quarter when senior Stevie Davis, a University of Pennsylvania commit, won the opening faceoff and raced down and beat Radnor goalie John Webb to give the Explorers their only lead of the game.

After Radnor grabbed a 2-1 lead, La Salle sophomore Danny Kuriger tied things up in the closing minute of the first quarter only to see the Raptors take control with three unanswered goals in the second quarter and a 5-2 halftime edge.

The Explores rallied to within a goal early in the third quarter on scores from junior Mike Rossi and sophomore Declan Heilig, but would not get any closer as the Raptors rattled off three straight scores to pull away.
