Who is Kyle McCord? Meet Ohio State football's 2023 starting quarterback

Kyle McCord will take Ohio State's first offensive snaps at quarterback against Indiana.

After two seasons as C.J. Stroud's backup, the junior quarterback was named as the Buckeyes' starter for their season opener against the Hoosiers at 3:30 p.m. Saturday on CBS. McCord beat out redshirt freshman Devin Brown for the first-team reps, while coach Ryan Day said both will take snaps in the first game of the 2023 season.

McCarthy and Southern California quarterback Caleb Williams, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner.

Since 2017, Ohio State has landed five top-10 quarterbacks: Tate Martell in 2017, Stroud in 2020, Ewers and McCord in 2021 and Brown in 2022.

Ohio State also has a commitment from 2024 five-star quarterback Air Noland and 2025 quarterback Tavien St. Clair who is listed as the No. 9 quarterback in the class per 247Sports' composite rankings.
