In case three NFL games on Thanksgiving weren't enough, the league will hold its first ever Black Friday game this week.

The Miami Dolphins (7-3) take on the New York Jets (4-6) at MetLife Stadium for the inaugural contest, which starts at 3 p.m. ET. The game will be exclusively streamed on Amazon Prime Video, but fans don't need a Prime subscription to watch the game.

Why are the Dolphins and Jets playing on Black Friday?

The first-ever Black Friday NFL game will feature the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets, but the contest could have looked very different.

The Cincinnati Bengals volunteered to play in the inaugural game, according to Mike North, the NFL's vice president of broadcast planning.

"The Cincinnati Bengals actually raised their hand and volunteered and said, 'We'd be happy to host the first Black Friday game,'" North told reporters in May. "'In fact, we'd be happy to make this a tradition. How about Black Friday in Cincinnati every year?' I'm sure that will be something we explore moving forward."

The NFL considered a game between the Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers. However, with Black Friday being a day all about shopping, Amazon wanted a New York team to be featured because of the area's reputation as a retail destination, CBS Sports reports. The league settled on Jets vs. Dolphins.

Is this the first Black Friday NFL game?

Yes. Amazon and the NFL announced last October that Prime Video would exclusively stream the first-ever Black Friday game on the Friday after Thanksgiving. The participating teams were unveiled with the release of the 2023 NFL schedule.

What time is the Black Friday game?

  • 3 p.m. ET on Friday, Nov. 24.

What channel is the Black Friday game on?

The Black Friday game will be exclusively streamed on Amazon Prime Video and on the Prime Video Twitch channel. You'll need to log into your Amazon account, but you don't need a Prime membership to stream this game.

Al Michaels is the play-by-play announcer, Kirk Herbstreit serves as analyst and Kaylee Hartung is the sideline reporter.

Jets vs. Dolphins will be simulcast on Fox for local viewers (Fox 5 in New York). Streaming options include the NFL+ mobile app and, for local viewers, Sling and Fubo, the latter of which offers a free trial to potential subscribers.

Is this the only Black Friday football game?

For this season, yes.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said last October there was no commitment to hold a Black Friday game beyond 2023, but that the league does not usually "do things for one year."

"I would call that entire weekend a football weekend," Goodell said of Thanksgiving weekend. "We think there's room for the NFL on Friday. We're excited by it, we think it's gonna be a great thing and we'll announce plans as we go."
