KHSAA baseball 6th, 7th and 8th region postseason awards, including Players of the Year

High school baseball coaches from the Sixth, Seventh and Eighth Regions have selected top players from the 2023 season in their respective districts and regions.

DeSales senior Carmine Fichetola was named Sixth Region Player of the Year. He batted .367 with eight home runs, 10 doubles and 33 RBIs for a Colts team that finished 28-10. On the mound, Fichetola was 2-0 with a 1.53 ERA and seven saves in 18 1/3 innings.

Manual junior Bennett Holdener was named Seventh Region Player of the Year. He batted .430 with two home runs, 10 doubles and 18 RBIs for a Crimsons team that finished 29-7. On the mound, Holdener was 5-1 with a 0.90 ERA and one save in 39 innings.

Woodford County junior Taylor Penn was named Eighth Region Player of the Year. He batted .421 with 12 doubles and 26 RBIs for a Yellow Jackets team that finished 26-12. On the mound, Penn was 8-0 with a 0.82 ERA and 98 strikeouts over 60 innings. He has committed to Western Kentucky University.

Coach of the Year honors went to DeSales’ Tim Sievert (Sixth Region), Manual’s Ryan Blackwell (Seventh Region) and Spencer County’s Stuart Dill (Eighth Region).
