Kentucky All-State teams announced: Ballard star pitcher Brooke Gray named Miss Softball

Make it a clean sweep of Kentucky’s softball postseason awards for Ballard High School senior pitcher Brooke Gray.

Gray has been named 2023 Miss Softball by the Kentucky Softball Coaches Association after getting Gatorade Kentucky Softball Player of the Year honors Friday.

Gray, a left-hander who has signed with the University of Louisville, led Ballard to its second straight state championship Saturday as the Bruins beat Henderson County 12-4. She was named MVP of the state tournament.

Gray finished the season with a 29-0 record and a 0.81 ERA. She had 307 strikeouts in 189 2/3 innings.

She’s the second Ballard player to win Miss Softball honors, joining Jessica Adell (2014).

Three players from Louisville received first-team All-State honors, which uses a three-class alignment to determine postseason awards. The Kentucky High School Athletic Association has a one-class system for softball postseason play.

Gray and Ballard teammate Emory Donaldson earned Class 3A first-team honors, and Holy Cross’ Mattie Streble was selected to the Class A first team.
