Kent State first baseman and Massillon product Aidan Longwell signs with Colorado Rockies
MASSILLON — Aidan Longwell is an amateur no more.
The Massillon product and Kent State first baseman has signed with the Colorado Rockies, who picked Longwell in the 17th round of the Major League Baseball Draft last week.
MLB.com's Jim Callis reported that Longwell (the 502nd overall selection) signed for a bonus of $130,000. Turning pro forfeits his senior season with the Golden Flashes.

He's coming off quite the high as a junior this past spring. The 21-year-old Longwell was named to the Collegiate Baseball News All-America third team and earned first-team honors from the Mid-American Conference and the East Region coaches association.
Longwell batted .409, the best mark by a Kent State player in 22 years. His 75 RBIs led the MAC and were the third most in Golden Flashes history.
The lefty hitter totaled 10 home runs, 23 doubles and 60 runs scored. He also did not commit an error in 432 total chances and was a Rawlings Gold Glove finalist at first base.
Longwell also performed well in limited innings on the mound. He was 1-0 with a 1.45 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 18⅔ innings. Opponents batted .098 off him.
The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Longwell has reported to the Rockies' rookie affiliate in Scottsdale, Arizona.
