Kent State had a strong start in its regular-season finale but couldn't maintain it in an 83-61 loss at Toledo in Mid-American Conference women's basketball Saturday.

The Golden Flashes (18-10, 12-5) led 23-16 at the end of the first quarter but were outscored by eight points (17-9) in the second quarter, 10 points (25-15) in the third and 11 points (25-14) in fourth as the MAC-leading Rockets (25-4, 17-1) pulled steadily away.

Mikala Morris led Kent State with 18 points, Dionna Gray had 11 and Katie Shumate 10.

Sophia Wiard scored 25 points and Quinesha Lockett added 21 for Toledo, the top seed in the upcoming MAC Tournament at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse.

The third-seeded Flashes open the MAC Tournament against No. 6 Northern Illinois in Wednesday's final first-round game at approximately 7 p.m.
