Karl Dorrell believes CU football is in ‘better shape’ than when he arrived
Going into the 2022 season, the Colorado Buffaloes football team has an uphill battle to impress people.
Head coach Karl Dorrell brought in some new faces on the coaching staff, and they saw a lot of players leave via the transfer portal, so it looks like another rebuilding year in Boulder.
However, Dorrell admitted that the Buffs program is in much better shape than when he first arrived (h/t Nikki Edwards of Rivals).
“This program is in such better shape than when I got here,” Dorrell said. “It’s ready to be built on the way, so if it doesn’t work out for me right now because I had a heart attack or whatever that is, my family and I know that it’s in much better shape right now than when I had it two years ago.”
When Mel Tucker left for Michigan State, the Buffs program was in a state of shock. So, Dorrell always had his work cut out for him. After a four-win season in 2021, the outside expectation is that the Buffs finish as one of the worst teams in the Pac-12.
But hope is here, and talent is coming in with the incoming freshmen and the class of 2023, specifically.
Even with all of the departures in the offseason, Dorrell insists this team is better than the 2021 group:
“I think this team is much, much better than it was last year.”
For Dorrell and his staff, hopefully, that is true.
