Kansas State football climbs back into coaches' poll, but falls one spot short in AP

Kansas State football clawed its way back into one national poll and fell just short in the other Sunday.

A hard-fought 44-31 Big 12 victory over Central Florida was just enough to lift the Wildcats into the No. 25 spot in the USA Today Coaches poll at 3-1. Two weeks ago, they were at No. 15, but dropped out following a heartbreaking 30-27 loss at Missouri.

The victory against UCF (3-1), which was playing its first-ever Big 12 Conference game, was not enough to earn a spot in the Associated Press media rankings. K-State fell one spot short, seven points behind No. 25 and unbeaten Fresno State, 64-57, settling for No. 1 among others receiving votes.

The Wildcats also were No. 15 in the AP poll before the Missouri loss.

K-State will have no say in its movement in or out of the rankings Sunday as they prepare for a bye week before heading to Stillwater on Oct. 6 to take on Oklahoma State.
