Kansas City area man has Chiefs art showcased at Las Vegas hotel

LAS VEGAS — When Aaron Norris was contacted by the Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas about serving as an “artist in residence” before and during the Super Bowl, he demurred.

“I told them I didn’t think I had enough art to make it work,” the Raymore sports artist said. But upon review as they say, he quickly realized the opportunity was too good to pass up.

So, he cranked out a couple more pieces, loaded them up in his car, and drove them out to Las Vegas to be hung in a special hall-way gallery, along with fellow sports artist Rob McFetridge.

A few weeks later Norris’ favorite team landed in the Super Bowl.

“When we beat the Ravens in the AFC Championship game, it was way better,” the analyst by day said. “It was awesome.”

Also awesome for both artists, validation of their side gigs.

“I’m still pinching myself, it’s dream to come out here,” Allentown, Pennsylvania, art teacher Rob McFetridge said. “Just to be at the Super Bowl on your artwork. It’s validation you know, is the perfect word for it.”

Both Rob and Aaron spent the days surrounding the Super Bowl as guests of the Four Seasons in the “Art of the Fan” series. Both are big football fans. Ironically, Rob is a Raiders fan in Eagles country.

Any smack talk between the two fast friends?

“Honestly, there’s not much smack talk to be had,” said Rob. Adding (things worked out) “a little bit better for Aaron I must say.”

Either way, both part time artists producing oils (Aaron) and pencil (Rob) works of sports art are winners. Aaron had sold three paintings as of Saturday. Rob was working on some good prospective sales.

And for Aaron, while he won’t be attending the actual Super Bowl, with his favorite team playing, he won’t miss it.

“Believe me I will be done painting by the time the game starts,” he said as he puts the finishing touches on a Patrick Mahomes work. “I’m not missing a single moment.”
