Kaitlyn Zugay, Garang Deng voted the Ames Tribune's female and male Athletes of the Week

Ballard girls tennis player Kaitlyn Zugay and Ames boys high jumper Garang Deng were voted the Ames Tribune female and male Athlete of the Week winners for the week of May 6-12.

Zugay won female Athlete of the Week with 66% of the vote. Collins-Maxwell track and field athlete Jayden Peters came in second with 31%.

Zugay qualified for the Class 1A state singles tournament for the second year in a row following the regional tournament on May 6 in Atlantic.

Zugay went 4-0 during the tournament.

Deng won male Athlete of the Week with 45% of the vote. Collins-Maxwell's Isaac Brown was close behind with 35%.

Deng qualified for the state track and field meet in the Class 4A high jump after placing fourth at the qualifying meet in Norwalk on May 9.

Deng peaked with a jump of six feet even. His jump ranked 12th among 4A qualifiers.
