CHARLES ROBINSON: So the Chargers at Jacksonville. I just love it because it's two quarterbacks where I'm like, all right, I expect these guys to be-- I don't want say this era's Dan Marino and John Elway, but it is that kind of early level of talent where you're like, huge arm. Lawrence, that exquisite, almost John Elway-like reputation coming into the draft, this just generational guy who goes number one. Can't miss on this guy. Got a little worried about that, but then he rounded into form this year.
I just like this is a quarterback matchup. I know some people are like, God, Jacksonville and the Chargers, the two fanbases that get ripped on all the time. I can't get Frank Schwab to shut up about their two fanbases every time we talk about the Chargers and Jaguars.
But I'm in it for the quarterbacks alone. And there's a lot of other intriguing storylines aside from this. I think Doug Pederson has done a fantastic job. Absolutely deserves some Coach of the Year votes. Both teams, if they play up to their level of talent, are really exciting. And what if this ends up being low key just a great playoff game that nobody expects?
JORI EPSTEIN: One of the things that I think will make it a great playoff game is just the way that neither of those teams are ever out. And both of those teams can sometimes-- you start a little slow, and they just come back in seemingly improbable ways. And that will be so much fun to watch.
CHARLES MCDONALD: Yeah, these are kind of the guys that you think can be-- when you look at the physical attributes and how well they throw the ball-- and with Lawrence especially, too, how well he can run it as well-- I think it kind of gives you a first glimpse, especially this season for Lawrence, at what is possible for these guys.
And I think what's possible is that both these guys are in that tier below Patrick Mahomes where you're not Mahomes, but you're in that next best crop. So I hope this is a shootout. I really want this to be a shootout. I want all of their talents on full display.
It's just one of these things to me that feels like a generational shift for the NFL, having this game in primetime, Lawrence versus Herbert. These two guys are going to be a part of their franchises for the next decade, and it's kind of exciting. The way we saw how Patrick Mahomes versus Josh Allen has become a rivalry too--
CHARLES ROBINSON: Right, yeah.
CHARLES MCDONALD: --I think that these guys can be up next as far as great AFC quarterbacks in a pretty stacked conference, I think, when you look at all the young quarterback talent in it.
