Are Josh Dobbs, Chiefs RBs risky plays in Week 14?

Fantasy Football Live’s Andy Behrens and Matt Harmon examine last minute pickups ahead of Week 14

Video Transcript

ANDY BEHRENS: Welcome to week 14. It's the playoffs for some of you. And it is practically the playoffs for the rest of you. Much too late in the season for any of us to take a loss right now. We're here to help. I'm Andy Behrens, joined by the great Matt Harmon.

We're taking a look at the latest transaction trends in Yahoo leagues. You can follow along. Just go to the Research tab in your league, hit Transaction Trends. You'll see exactly what we're looking at. Matt, what or who is jumping out to you this morning?

MATT HARMON: Well, Josh Dobbs is interesting to me for a couple different reasons. One, look, if you are still streaming quarterbacks, and I think a lot of us have been, whether we wanted to or not, forced into streaming quarterbacks this year because it's been so many injuries at the position. That's just been one of the themes of this season. But if you are looking to stream this week, he theoretically presents a pretty decent option.

It's a Raiders match-up that, outside of Maxx Crosby, this is definitely a gettable defense, although Crosby seems to be potentially in the best shape he's been in all season from an injury perspective. So that does at least have to worry you. But Andy, for me, it's just the Vikings came out of their bye week and said they are going to start Josh Dobbs. You know this, Andy. This is just like a relationship.

Once you have decided, like, I'm thinking I might break up with this person, like, you've broken up with this person. Once you put a quarterback on benching notice, like, now when the team does that, then everybody from the outside, fantasy players, fans, whatever, have to have that on high alert that this guy could get benched at any moment. Again, bring up Maxx Crosby.

He gives you a good sack fumble here for the Raiders. I mean, the hook might be pretty quick for Josh Dobbs. So if you are looking to play him in fantasy, that does at least have to be a major worry that you might, again, early on in this game, see him pulled and not return.

ANDY BEHRENS: No, it's a great point. And he's got all this appeal now with Justin Jefferson coming back as well. I think what jumps out to me here, I'll just take the top of the transaction board. We've got Clyde Edwards there. We've got we've got Jerick McKinnon up there, of course. Because Isaiah Pacheco has been ruled out.

He's dealing with a shoulder injury that happens to be to the same shoulder that he had surgery on in the offseason. That's not looking too good. Andy Reid this week came out and said that Clyde Edwards-Helaire would be the number one guy, for whatever that's worth. I think we know what that means. I think we can assume that Clyde Edwards-Helaire is going to take a lot of that early down work.

But Jerick McKinnon, of course, famously last season, anybody who was engaged in their fantasy league late last year knows that he scored 9 touchdowns over the final six weeks. He was great. I guess my one word of caution on McKinnon is going to be that these are not the 2022 Chiefs, right?

They score without a touchdown less per game. Last year, the highest scoring team in the NFL, at over 29 points per game. This year, it's about 22 points per game and they're outside the top 10.

So this is not exactly the same offensive environment. They're still led by Patrick Mahomes. He's still Jerick McKinnon. He can still score in any given week. I just-- I wouldn't consider him the obvious, set it and forget it lineup option. I think at least with CEH, you have some bankable volume here. Because remember last year, the Pacheco breakout didn't really happen until the second half when CEH himself was on injured reserve and couldn't play.

Anyway, they're both interesting. Both in play for week 14, and beyond. Let's just hope Isaiah Pacheco can make it back and we see him again before the end of the season. I would say that the waiver wire is being unusually kind to us actually in week 14. There are some decent options here. Let's go get a win people.
