Josh Allen gets revenge for missed horse collar with roughing the passer flop in overtime
There have been some outrageous penalty calls on hits against quarterbacks in the NFL this season.
Referees seemed to miss an obvious one on Philadelphia Eagles' linebacker Haason Reddick's takedown on Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen on Sunday.
The Bills led 10-7 and had third-and-goal late in the second quarter and called a read pass option. Reddick got pressure, ripping Allen's jersey with his left hand and throwing him down by the back of the shoulder pads with his right hand hand.
Jim Nantz and Tony Romo couldn't believe that Haason Reddick wasn't called for a horse collar after tackling Josh Allen.
Instead, Allen was called for intentional grounding, leading to 3rd-and-goal at the 16. 2 plays later, Bills kicker Tyler Bass had a field goal try blocked. pic.twitter.com/99WNA3LDNC— Awful Announcing (@awfulannouncing) November 26, 2023
Buffalo was incredulous a horse collar tackle wasn't called, which would have given the Bills a first-and-goal just outside the 1-yard line.
To make matters worse for the Bills, Allen was called for intentional grounding on the play, although a receiver seemed to be in the area. Two plays later, Tyler Bass' 34-yard field goal attempt was blocked.
A horse collar tackle is not a reviewable offense.
In overtime, Allen got revenge. Allen threw a short completion and was shoved by Nicholas Morrow. Allen embellished the hit and flailed to the ground and Morrow was called for roughing the passer.
Josh Allen clearly flops and he gets a roughing the passer call to go his way. A huge call. pic.twitter.com/BX9pIsIj8J

Was this a horse-collar on Josh Allen?
He got called for intentional grounding instead.pic.twitter.com/HQVwzJwO8hpic.twitter.com/T6qANLI4k1https://t.co/9HubBASyYA pic.twitter.com/EkRZisrga2— Dov Kleiman (@NFL_DovKleiman) November 26, 2023
Josh Allen just got horse-collared directly in front of the ref and the end result of the play was an intentional grounding 🤷♂️
