How Josh Allen responded to first mention of MVP conversation

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen appeared on ESPN’s popular morning talk show, First Take, with analysts Stephen A. Smith and Max Kellerman on Monday following his impressive display against the Miami Dolphins in Week 2. But it was host Molly Qerim who really got the conversion going in a hurry during Allen’s appearance.

Right off the bat, she referenced some social media discussion which mentioned the name “Josh Allen” and the acronym “MVP” in the same sentence. That’s some really high praise for Allen after just two games, but considering he’s the NFL’s leader in passing yards and the most valuable plater award typically goes to a quarterback, it’s a warranted mention.

Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott said following the 31-28 win and Allen’s 417-yard outing on Sunday that the QB had “ice in his veins.” Evidently, Allen didn’t warm up at all overnight. At the mention of him in the MVP discussion, Allen himself pumped the brakes.

“It’s two weeks in and I don’t want to jump the horse on anything or get in front of anything. We’re just trying to do our job here in Buffalo,” Allen said. “We’ve got a lot of guys who are true professionals that are working hard, Coach (Sean) McDermott is leading us in the right direction and really just trying to follow what he’s got in store for us.

“Just trying to do our job. First two weeks have been good, we’ve been executing at a pretty high level. But we know what we’ve got coming in on Sunday, a very good Rams team with the playmakers on defense that we’ve got to be ready for so that’s really what we’re focusing on.”

A trademark answer from Allen, and of course, a true one. Bills fans have been down this road before with strong quarterback play in short spurts. Does Allen have a different feeling about his form right now? He does, but the road is going to get tougher and Allen’s wise to just keep focus on the Rams and leave the talking heads on television alone.
