Jordynn Toliver breaks records at NAIA National Championships

May 30—GULF SHORES, Ala. — The University of Jamestown had three athletes compete in the 2022 NAIA National Championships. The most successful of the trio was sophomore heptathlete Jordynn Toliver who became the program's first outdoor All-American since Kaiann Arellao did so in 2018. As a team the Jimmies finished out of the 35th for the women and outside of the top 77 for the men.

By virtue of her performances this season, Toliver is now an All-American for the second time in her career after accomplishing the feet during the 2021-22 indoor season. Toliver came in fifth in the javelin with a program record throw of 142 feet and one inch (43.30 meters), which is four inches further than Christi Johnson's previous record set in 1994. Toliver also won the heptathlon shot put with a throw of 12.12 meters, 0.29 meters ahead of the second-place finisher Corban University's Valerie Schmidt. Toliver also won the heptathlon specific javelin throw with a distance of 40.58. Those two wins were good enough to see her finish sixth in the heptathlon with a score of 4,729, which breaks Sarah Kipper's record of 4,657 which she set in 2011. It also passes her previous career-high of 4,390 points in the heptathlon, which now drops to fourth in program history.

"It truly means the world to have gotten to compete among so many others at the NAIA national championship and means even more to be within the top eight out of all the multis and (javelin) throwers,"Toliver said. "The multi is my main event and stopping basketball this year to go all in, in that event was a really hard decision so it's good to see that it wasn't in vain."

The Jimmies' Jorden Morales participated in the men's discus event and finished in 15th with a distance of 152 feet, three inches (46.40 meters). Morales was in his first ever trip to the national championships.

The most veteran of the Jimmies that participated was junior Braedon Gumke who did not record a height in the high jump.
