Johnny Hekker restructures contract to remain with Rams

Johnny Hekker is staying in Los Angeles after all. After there was speculation that the Rams were going to keep Corey Bojorquez as their punter over Hekker, the story has taken a turn.

According to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News, Hekker has restructured his contract with the Rams and will remain with the team. That’s a nice last-minute surprise for fans who were expecting Hekker to be cut due to his contract, which pays him more than any other punter in the NFL.

The exact terms of his reworked deal have not been revealed, but at least we now know who the Rams’ punter will be in 2021.

Hekker was making $3.76 million per year on his current deal, a figure that will surely be lowered now that he’s restructured his contract. The Rams would have saved $3.75 million by cutting Hekker, but they’ve opted to keep him at a lower price.
