John Carroll Catholic baseball bows out in 4-2A semis; Five sign from Jensen Beach football

Region 4-2A

(3) Westminster Academy 10, (2) John Carroll Catholic 0 (5 innings)

FORT PIERCE — The rubber match between a pair of programs both knowing they could get the better of one another if either team played at their best materialized Friday night.

Unfortunately, John Carroll Catholic was the team on the wrong end of a lopsided result.

Westminster Academy broke out their bats to the tune of 12 hits and used a five-run fifth inning to deliver the knockout punch and end the Rams' season at Lawnwood Stadium.

The Lions (15-9-1) had split two regular season matchups with John Carroll, winning in walk-off fashion 4-3 on Mar. 11 before Rams' star pitcher Tracen Cameron pitched a one-hit shutout to lead John Carroll to a 2-0 win on April 19.

With the Rams () opting to try and save Cameron for a possible regional final game that would have taken place Monday, Westminster Academy used some two-out magic to score first.

A wild pitch from John Carroll starter Taggart Cameron followed by an RBI single from J.C Hernandez put the Lions on top 2-0.

John Carroll quickly had a rally to try and answer in the home half of the inning as Matt Correa and Anthony Ferraro drew back-to-back walks against Lions starter Landon Petrisko but the Rams came up empty with runners at first and third with nobody out as the inning ended on a catcher's interference call on a throw-down to second.

In the third, a two-out John Carroll error plated another run for Westminster Academy and in the fourth, another error by the Rams led to a run and Michael Cespedes had an RBI single for the Lions to make it 5-0.

John Carroll's Jake Rychter broke up Petrisko's no-hitter with a single in the fourth but the Rams didn't build off the baserunner and Westminster Academy broke it wide open in the fifth.

Three different Lions had RBI singles that put the game away as the Rams lost in the regional semifinal for the second year in a row.
