Tennessee freshman tennis player Johannus Monday became the third Volunteer to earn the ITA National Freshman of the Year award.

He joins current Tennessee head coach Chris Woodruff and Peter Handoyo as the only Vols to earn the honor.

Woodruff won the award in 1992 and Handoyo claimed the honor in 1999.

Monday, who hails from Hull, England, had a stellar first year on Rocky Top.

He was an All-Southeastern Conference First-Team Player and named ITA Ohio Valley Region Rookie of the Year.

Monday, named to the SEC’s All-Freshman Team, was the league’s Freshman of the Year.

He was also an All-America singles player after compiling a 32-9 record.
