Joel Klatt updates his college football top 10 rankings

One of the bigger weekends of the college football season has come and gone with five matchups between ranked opponents taking place this weekend.  Top-10 Oklahoma was handed their second loss of the year as Oklahoma State sent them packing one last time in Bedlam.

Notre Dame was hoping to make a run at a New Year’s Six bowl game but the Irish were a no-show Saturday at Clemson, losing 31-23 to the now 5-4 Tigers.

Notre Dame had been put in the “next up” category of Joel Klatt’s top 10 rankings the last couple of weeks.  After their loss however, Klatt didn’t have any love for Notre Dame – nor should he have.

Here is Klatt’s latest top 10 rankings following Week 10.

Ole Miss (8-1)

Ole Miss moved to 8-1 on the year with a 38-35 victory over Texas A&M on Saturday.  The win was the third-straight for Ole Miss over the Aggies as they now get set to head to Athens to take on the two-time reigning national champions.

Penn State (8-1)

Penn State won with ease at Maryland to move to 8-1 and for the next week will serve unoffically as America’s Team as they get set to host Michigan in Happy Valley.

Alabama (8-1)

In early September we were all set to declare Alabama as a has-been and will-never-be-again under Nick Saban.  Fast forward two months and the Tide seem headed back to the SEC Championship where a win will likely get them a College Football Playoff berth.

Texas (8-1)

Texas moved to 8-1 with an overtime win over Kansas State.  The Longhorns have been able to manage without starting quarterback Quinn Ewers the last couple of weeks but are playing with fire in regards to staying in the CFP race of late.

Florida State (9-0)

I don’t understand Klatt on this one.  Florida State hasn’t looked amazing but when looking at their resume, wins over LSU and Clemson are still plenty significant even if the two have combined for seven losses.

Oregon (8-1)

Leading Cal 14-10 after the first quarter, Oregon went on a 49-9 run to close the game and move to 8-1 on the year.  Bo Nix and the Ducks offense now get set to try and feast against USC who comes to Eugene next week.

Washington (9-0)

Washington has had moments where they look as good as anyone and have had a couple of games where they struggled to victories over lowly opponents like Arizona State and Stanford.  The Huskies had one of their better showings of the year in Saturday night’s 52-42 win at USC.

Ohio State (9-0)

Trailing 9-7 in the third quarter, Ohio State’s defense forced a pick-six from deep in their own territory to turn the tide entirely at Rutgers.  The Buckeyes now have Michigan State and Minnesota before closing the regular season at Michigan.

Georgia (9-0)

Georgia is learning how to survive and manage without all-world tight end Brock Bowers.  The Dawgs overcame a 13-10 second half deficit Saturday to get by Missouri, 30-21.  A huge one awaits Georgia next week when one-loss Ole Miss comes to Athens.

Michigan (9-0)

Michigan moved to 9-0 and have been impressive all year but have also played one of the biggest cupcake schedules of all-time to date.  Things get turned up a notch in a hurry next week as the Wolverines travel to Penn State.
