Jimmy and Robin Burrow talk Joe Burrow Foundation, thoughts on 2023 Bengals season

Days away from the Bengals' first game of the 2023 season, Jimmy and Robin Burrow spent the day in Cincinnati at work promoting an upcoming event for the Joe Burrow Foundation.

The Burrows, parents of Joe, run the foundation and on Sept. 9 will host an event called “Dine for 9.”

In coordination with hundreds of restaurants in Cincinnati, Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Athens, Ohio, participating restaurants will donate to the Joe Burrow Foundation for each person who dines there. Jimmy Burrow says they have 300 restaurants participating for this event. He encourages those who can't make it out to one of the restaurants to visit JoeBurrow.org and make a donation.

The mission of Burrow’s foundation is to provide resources and support to the underprivileged and underserved.

“Food insecurity is a big issue that we want to help to bridge that gap for kiddos and families who have that challenge but also help in the mental health arena and trying to bridge those gaps as well is a really big part of what we want to try and help with,” Robin Burrow said.

The following restaurants in Cincinnati will be participating in the “Dine for 9” event on Sept. 9:

Jimmy and Robin joined The Enquirer’s Kelsey Conway in studio for a podcast (available on Apple and Spotify) in which they discussed the upcoming event, why Joe is passionate about this specific cause, what their gameday routine is like, how they handle stressful situations like the news of their son getting injured and the ongoing contract talks and their thoughts on the upcoming season.

Here are some notable quotes from the interview:

Question: How did you find out the news that Joe got injured in practice not living in Cincinnati?

“This year when Joe got hurt we found out because a friend of ours saw it on social media and sent us the video. So that’s not very fun. That was not a fun day. I was mostly worried that it was his Achilles tendon but it wasn’t, so that’s good.” – Robin Burrow

Q: Do contract talks stress you guys out as parents?

“You know what, Joe’s got a great team of people – his agents. He’s got a contract agent, marketing agent and a financial agent. They are all wonderful. We know that he’s in good hands with them. And I know that it will end up working out, I hope that it does at least. I’m staying positive 100 percent on that. I’m sure that he will be here for a long time so I don’t really stress out about it too much. – Robin Burrow

“We kind of take the lead from Joe and I think he’s really good at not letting things like that affect what he does on and off the field. We just know that the talks continue.” – Jimmy Burrow

Q: What are your thoughts on the upcoming season:

“You never know how the new additions are going to gel with each side of the ball and with the locker room but everything he’s told us is positive. I think the Bengals have done a great job of when they add players, character and how they’re going to react in the culture that’s already established that’s huge. When they bring in Orlando Brown or Irv Smith or Trey Hendrickson a couple of years ago they have a good idea that not only are those guys going to help athletically but they are going to fit in the locker room. I think everything is positive. If we can get the quarterback healthy, we’ll probably be in good shape.” – Jimmy Burrow

“I’m just excited to see Joe back out there on the field. I’m sure Bengals nation agrees with that. We’re hoping that it will be this Sunday.” – Robin Burrow
