Jimmy Garoppolo trade could entice 'desperate' Cowboys, Nick Wright believes

Nick Wright: Cowboys ‘desperate’ enough for Jimmy G trade originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

When Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott exited late in their 19-3 loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday at AT&T Stadium, it didn’t take long for the Jimmy Garoppolo rumors to fire up.

Prescott was injured in the fourth quarter when he hit Shaq Barrett's hand while throwing a pass. ESPN NFL Nation reporter Todd Archer reported on Monday that Prescott is expected to miss 6-8 weeks, citing multiple sources.

Nick Wright, a co-host on Fox Sports 1's "First Things First," believes the Cowboys are ‘desperate’ enough to explore a trade that would see the 49ers send Garoppolo to Dallas.

“The question for today is a simple one: Are the Cowboys going to be desperate enough to trade for Jimmy G?” Wright tweeted on Monday. “My guess is they are & they get him for a mid-round, conditional pick.”

Despite the rumors connecting the Cowboys to the 49ers’ veteran quarterback, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is all-in on their current backup Cooper Rush.

“He can play at a level that we can win ball games,” Jones told Jori Epstein of USA TODAY Sports. “The main thing about him as a backup quarterback is we didn’t have to alter the offense to have him.

“That’s a good thing to have continuity. That’s the main reason he won the job. Just count on him. He threw a couple of good balls out there.”

Dallas has playoff aspirations this 2022 NFL season. However, if the Cowboys opt to stick with Rush over putting together a trade proposal for Garoppolo, they might have to begin preparing for 2023.
