Jimmies women's soccer get 1-1 draw against Missouri Valley

Aug. 23—MARSHALL, Mo. — The University of Jamestown's starting goalie Tea Pence stood tall in net as the Jimmies started their 2023 campaign off with a 1-1 tie against Missouri Valley College on Wednesday, Aug. 23, at the Vikings' Gregg-Mitchell Field.

In total, Pence made five saves on six shots on goal, including three in the final 25 minutes of the game when the Jimmies were playing a woman down after a red card to Miarosa Gyllenswan for picking up her second yellow of the game. Pence has now given up one goal or less in 14 of her last 15 games dating back to last season.

The Jimmies (0-0-1) got off to a flying start as Kyla Yamada sent a ball up the field that sprung Sidney Mikes to get in on goal as she fought off her defender and put it in to make it 1-0. The goal is the junior's first in a Jimmie uniform.

Just over 10 minutes later the Vikings (0-0-1) struck back to make it 1-1. Late in the first half, the Vikings had a chance to take the lead when they got taken down in the box and Rina Kinami stepped up to the spot and crushed the ball off the crossbar so hard that it bounded back outside the box to keep the game right where it was.

The Jimmies are back in action at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 25, when they take on Columbia College.
