Jets coach Adam Gase says Christopher Johnson has called team about Woody Johnson's alleged comments

NEW YORK — Jets head coach Adam Gase spoke on the allegations of racist and sexist comments made by Woody Johnson, the owner of the team. The New York Times released an article last week alleging that Johnson wondered why there is a need for Black History Month and directed inappropriate comments at female colleagues.

Just like general manager Joe Douglas, Gase said that Christopher Johnson, Woody’s brother, called him after the allegations.

“Christopher called me the day all that came out,” Gase said. “Knowing Christopher and spending the amount of time that I have with him, I believe exactly what he says and I think Christopher has done a great job.”

Christopher Johnson appears to be cleaning up after his brother’s mess. Woody Johnson has yet to make a public statement, but Gase noted that Christopher Johnson reached out to players following the incident.

“He’s gone through almost our entire roster as far as contacting these guys himself and spending time on the phone with these guys,” Gase said. “Whether it be FaceTime or a phone call, he’s trying to talk to every guy on our roster. Working for a guy that is single-handedly calling every single player on our roster, and he’s been doing that for the past two weeks, I’ve been very impressed with how he’s gone about this.”

Also like Douglas, Gase says he’s taking Christopher Johnson at his word that the Johnson family doesn’t stand for the alleged actions of Woody Johnson.

Woody, who has essentially been absent from the team since 2017, is currently working as an ambassador to the United Kingdom for the Trump administration.

To date, the team has released a statement, Gase and Douglas have publicly vouched for the Johnsons and Christopher Johnson appears to be mending relationships with players on his own personal time.

Woody Johnson is still unheard from and there’s no telling when, or if, he’ll speak on this matter.
