Jeb Burton drives Xfinity Series car that honors first responders at Watkins Glen

Watkins Glen International's NASCAR Xfinity Series event will again shine a spotlight on the significance of first responders, flight crews and emergency personnel.

Jeb Burton will be behind the wheel as the No. 27 Chevy Camaro of the Jordan Anderson Racing Bommarito Autosport team carries the "2nd Chances" homage on its front during the Shriner's Children's 200 at The Glen on Saturday. On the back is a reminder to "Slow Down, Move Over" for those responding to emergencies.

The previous two years at WGI, Fleur De Lis Motorsports and MBM Motorsports partnered to showcase the message, with Timmy Hill handling driving duties.

Seneca Falls native Craig Partee is owner of Fleur De Lis Motorsports and is a member of the Jordan Anderson Racing Bommarito team.

A story behind the message

Partee and others were dismantling an 1800s barn on June 26, 2020, near Farmington – an Ontario County town about 20 miles from Rochester – when a shift of the roof left his life hanging in the balance as others scrambled to safety, some suffering minor injuries.

Partee suffered six broken ribs, a punctured lung, fractures and torn tendons in both ankles, a nicked liver and lacerations. The quick response of emergency personnel helped save his life and the "2nd Chances" car is his way of saying thanks while bringing awareness.

"The 2nd Chances tribute car is a heartfelt expression of my immense appreciation for the exceptional individuals who courageously step up in times of crisis," Partee said in a press release. "They played a pivotal role in my own life, rescuing me from a dire situation and providing unwavering care. This initiative is a testament to their remarkable contributions."

Anderson saved by first responders in Alabama

First responders played a vital role in aiding Anderson after his fiery crash in October during a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama. Anderson suffered second- and third-degree burns on his neck, face, right arm, hands and both knees.

During the team's return to Talladega in April, Burton gave Jordan Anderson Racing Bommarito Autosport its first victory in the Xfinity Series.

Burton is proud to be part of the message.

"I am truly honored to have the privilege of driving a car that stands as a powerful symbol of support for our first responders," said Jeb, son of retired NASCAR driver Ward Burton. "Their unparalleled bravery and sacrifices deserve recognition and I'm excited to be a part of a vehicle that embodies their unwavering dedication."

This weekend's car also pays tribute to two members of Anderson's flight crew who died in a medical helicopter crash in April: 63-year-old Marc Gann and 43-year-old Samuel Russell. The tail number of the flight will be featured on the rear bumper of the No. 27 Camaro.

Also on the back of the car is the tail number of the Mercy Flight Central helicopter that transported Partee to the trauma center. Logos of companies that support first responders will also be displayed on the car.
