Javelin Guidry suffers knee injury, is released to make room for Dalvin Cook
Jets cornerback Javelin Guidry suffered a knee injury during Wednesday’s joint practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and is expected to undergo surgery, per a report by NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. Guidry is likely heading to injured reserve, which will end his season unless the Jets release him with an injury settlement. He’ll have to clear waivers first, which he likely will.
Guidry joined the Jets this offseason when he was claimed off waivers from the Atlanta Falcons in May. He spent time last season with the Falcons, Philadelphia Eagles, Las Vegas Raiders and Arizona Cardinals.
Guidry was having a solid preseason and could have been making a case to stick on the practice squad at least. If he does land on IR, the Jets could release him within five days with an injury settlement and he could join another team. If he is released with an injury settlement, he wouldn’t be able to return to the Jets until the number of weeks agreed to in the settlement, plus three additional weeks, have passed.
Guidry originally came into the league with the Jets as an undrafted free agent out of Utah in 2020.
Update: Guidry was waived with an injury designation as the corresponding move to the Jets signing running back Dalvin Cook. He will revert to the Jets’ injured reserve if he clears waivers.
