Jason Cabinda happy to be the Lions’ offensive enforcer

Jason Cabinda is now locked into being a Detroit Lion for the next two seasons. The starting fullback avoided restricted free agency and signed a two-year contract with the team on Thursday. Shortly after signing, he met with the media to talk about his decision.

Cabinda was asked why he wanted to re-sign with the Lions. He jumped right to the chase.

“I think it starts with coach (Dan) Campbell and (GM) Brad Holmes,” Cabinda said. “Them kind of building this foundation from the ground up. That toughness and that grit and that attitude, the mentality that we bring to the field. I feel like you saw it in every single game.”

Befitting a player who entered the NFL as a linebacker, Cabinda appreciates doing the physical dirty work for the offense.

“Me being the fullback, being the physical enforcer on the offense, that being my role. I’m happy. I’m ready to continue to expand and continue to grow in my role,” Cabinda continued.

Cabinda played a little over 20 percent of the Lions offensive snaps in 2021, including 48 where he aligned as an inline tight end.
